Need for calcium or minerals?

{Thank you Sheila for answering my other posts about the probiotics. ;)}

My son's teeth are starting to look odd so I'm trying to figure out if

it is calcium deficiency or ?. Especially the front teeth look like

they are loosing color in some places. Kind of discolored like they

are dirty even after they are brushed. This got me thinking about the

fact that he barely gets any calcium. He has never done well with

calcium suppliment (hyper esp at night). So, the only calcium he used

to get was from the Almond Breeze milk which he no longer drinks since

going SCD. Should I be concerned? What brands of minerals are good

for ASD kids?

Thank you so much for your help!

Tamaro addresses this on the Vitamin K group. Calcium

supps can make kids hyper. advises against them.

's Vitamin K protocol is an attempt to allow the kids to

improve their processing of calcium. You may want to check it out.

My dd's teeth are very yellow. After she was diagnosed with Crohn's, her blood

tests showed she was VERY anemic. It's only looking back that we see that

increasing her iron has helped her teeth be less yellow. (btw, iron supps are

illegal on scd, and, in any case, I don't know if this applies to ASD kids....)

Good luck,

Ellen

Just catching up over the weekend, so maybe others have replied, but my

daughter's teeth became gray after about a month or two on SCD. That's when it

hit me that the grape juice we were giving her was a great dye. (We were

" tea-dying " her teeth, only, actually " grape-dying. " ) We switched to white

grape juice and her teeth cleared right up within a couple months. (A trip to

the dentist for a cleaning helped the clean-up process, too.) Welch's white

grape juice has additives, so we use Santa Cruz Organic white grape juice, which

I have only been able to find at Whole Foods Market. It's expensive, but worth

my teenage girl not having gray teeth! (BTW, I only use the grape juice to give

her her supplements. She drinks only OJ for breakfast and water the rest of the

day.)

Elaine talks about minerals in BTVC. She doesn't recommend

supplementing with just one mineral as you can throw them out of

balance. There are some good multivitains and mineral supplements if

you want to use one. See http://pecanbread.com/new/Sup1.html (SCD

multi, Kirkman's, GiProHealth multi etc..)

Homemade bone broths are also a very good source of minerals.

Also Celtic or Jurrasic sea salts are a good source of minerals. I put them

in my bone broth!
