I've been reading the posts for a couple of months now. This is my first post.

My son was diagonosed PDD NOS Sept 06. He'll be 4 this Sept.

He's been Gluten/Dairy Free for 9 months. Started SCD end of April.

Saw Dr. Krigsman middle of May and stool labs show elevated lactoferrin

indicating inflammatory bowel disease. He is recommending a diagnostic upper

and lower endoscopy / colonoscopy.

My son vomited last Saturday from late afternoon thru evening (about 8 or 9

times), was tired and not to hungry the next day and seemed fine the rest of the

week. Here it is Saturday a week later and about the same time we're repeating

last Saturday. These are the first times vomiting since starting SCD. He used

to vomit once a week like clockwork for about the 2 months prior to starting any

special diets. I'm trying to reread Elaine's book trying to find a reference I

think I remember refering to something of this nature. Any input would be

appreciated.

Thanks for your hep.

It is possible that he is going through the 3 month flare (which

mostly refers to a regular flare up of microbes, not necessarily at

three months; could be at 2 mos, 4 mos etc..)

Does he vomit on the same day; is there some place or activity he is

doing before these episodes occur?

Hi Sheila,

Could it be the flare up? Why would he only be vomiting on Saturdays. He has

vomited the past 2 Saturdays around late afternoon each time. On both

occasions we were just hanging out. He is doing more screeching than normal. I

guess it is a good idea to start the intro diet again?

Thanks,

Kathy

Sheila, Can you explain the microbe flare? Does this mean the heartier of the

microbes are able to survive on the later stage foods and they start to

flourish?

Hi Kathy,

It could be something cyclic (?). Have you changed anything in his

environment lately - new carpets etc..?

" screeching " ? Do you mean crying?

<<I guess it is a good idea to start the intro diet again?>>

It may help eliminate possible problems.

Hi ,

<<Sheila, Can you explain the microbe flare? Does this mean the

Not quite. Elaine wasn't sure but it may be caused by some microbes

that survive in the biofilm becoming active and multiplying . It might

be from sporeformers that have been in the spore stage and are now

going through a reproductive phase. It could be some hardy microbes

that are existing at low numbers and for some reason (?) they go

through a surge of growth. The foods eaten play a part- not depending

on the stage of the food but on the digestability of the host. Namely

if you aren't able to digest it these microbes will. In other words ,

if the conditions are right the microbes will increase. Going a bit

more basic (or intro) should starve them out in most cases.

We have not had any changes in our environment. Maybe it's more like whining.

I feel bad because I know he wants to tell me what's wrong but can't. We are

traveling to Florida on Sunday for his appointment with Dr. Levinson (DAN Dr.)

on Monday. Maybe he'll have some input.

Thanks!
