Older Children Starting Diet

I am the mother of a 6 1/2 year old son with Autism.

When he was diagnosed 4 1/2 years ago, we tried everything....diets,

vitamins, chelation, etc. He was on SCD for a year, and at the

time, we didn't think we saw enough progress to stick with the

diet. We slowly stopped with everything and he's been doing the

same. Lately, though, he has regressed and is not doing well at all.

He has issues with his BM's. We've seen several specialists, but

have not gotten anywhere with them.

He has something going on in his gut and we think it's bacteria

related. He has NO yeast issues-we've had his stool tested numerous

times and they are always amazed that there is not a yeast issue

going on.

The GI specialist has told us he may have Eocinophilic Enteropathy

(sp?) which is a bacterial overgrowth. He responded surpisingly

well to antibiotics. When scoped though, they found no traces of

eocinophils in him. I'm thinking of jumping back into SCD again, as

I am at my wits end trying to figure this out.

Sorry for the long winded message.

I am looking to hear from others who may have started this diet

later on with their children and what the experience has been like

for you.

I am ready to start again, but really need some encouraging that it

will help him. As you all know, this is a demanding diet and it

takes a real commitment and with two other young, picky eaters as

well, it will be a real challenge!

I appreciate your time.

Thank you,

Jen Hayward
