Guest guest
Hi All, I really need your help and advice. We are moving from NY to CO in three weeks. We knew the move was coming, but recent events have accelerated it. At any rate, we are barely out of the intro ( we will have been SCD two weeks on Friday). We are doing great, so great that I certainly don't want to risk messing with the diet! So far, other than Intro foods, I have introduced, bananas, zucchini, and applesauce. Next week we are taking a house hunting trip that will involve a day of flying and five days in a hotel. We have a hotel/suite with a kitchen which will help, but with my limited choices, what can I take on the airplane? What can I prepare in the hotel (there is a microwave and stove, but no oven)? If I am able to introduce 1-2 foods before the trip, what would I get the most use out of for travel purposes? Should I consider introducing something advanced, like a muffin or bread for portability and/or sandwich options or would that just be stupid? After this trip, we will then come back and drive from NY to CO which will involve at least two days on the road and I'm not sure if we will be in our house or in temporary housing when we get there. I really need options and advice! Thank you. Mommy to 4 yrs pdd-nos/asd/Asperger's Traits (almost fully recovered) and 8 months (so far so good!) Guest guest
Hi Lise! We recently did an overseas trip and spent a few nights at a hotel with a kitchenette. It went fine doing SCD! Here are a few tips for the plane: Burgers meatballs ribs Chicken peices Hardcooked eggs Canned sardines egg and veggie and meat " pancakes " zucchini fries/carrot fries (bake strips in oven covered in olive oil) soup or stew (we have a large widemouthed thermos and highly recommend as a good SCD investment) Personally I think egg would be a great item to be able to add in. Then you can whip up all sorts of things at the hotel in no time, like omlettes, pancakes, etc. Make some meals in advance, freeze, carry in cooler, and thaw out to eat when you want. Like sauteed chicken and veggies. My kids love roast pork or chicken with zucchini gravy. Make lots of stock, cook down, put in portion bags, freeze and at the hotel place either chicken, beef or lamb in it and cook with carrots, celery(discard), onions (discard), and zucchini. Also easy to make in advance: roast beef or pork or lamb, once again freeze: this time in slices and prepare at hotel with veggies you buy there. Since you can eat applesauce you could make fabulous pancakes with it if eggs are tolerated. Or pancakes with grated and cooked zucchini and carrots. Yum! I also made pancakes with small peices of meat and veggies. Or you could even grind up the meat and veggies and make thicker pancakes. I would definitely bring some boxes/bags with large portions of frozen applesauce to portion out daily. That will save you lots of time and hassle on your hotel stay. Hope that this was of some help! Have a great move! > > Hi All, > > I really need your help and advice. We are moving from NY to CO in three weeks. We knew the move was coming, but recent events have accelerated it. Guest guest
, The most important thing is not to eat anything illegal during the moving process. I highly recommend erring on the side of eating more advanced foods on the diet than erring by eating illegals. We were fortunate that my daughter did well with everything legal right from the start of the diet. (Though, I didn't offer anything that Elaine advised to wait for diarrhea/constipation to disappear, such as seedy things.) Only when my daughter improved drastically did it start becoming obvious what gave her a good day and what gave her a bad day, and we were able to start eliminating. But just having all the illegals out of her body made her feel so much better that the less tolerable foods weren't noticeable; because she wasn't in pain all the time from constipation, she was so happy finally, any " less tolerated " food still made her feel better than any illegal ever made her feel. Anyway, all to say: Err on the side of going more advanced on the diet, rather than falling off the diet. Have happy travels. Guest guest
Hi - How did you get the food there. Was it carried on or checked luggage? I have a trip coming up and I didn't think I was allowed to carry on food or liquids. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, The food we carried on the plane: burgers, ribs, pancakes and veggies. In the checked baggage: cooler (you can duck tape it closed)filled with frozen foods. We traveled on Iceland air and were allowed to carry on those items both ways. Call airline/airport security in advance to check! Hope this helps! Bon voyage! > > > > Hi All, > > > > I really need your help and advice. We are moving from NY to CO > in three weeks.
