Guest guest
I have attempted Intro 3 times now but have yet to expreience the clean out due to die off. Each time I try my bowel seems to go to sleep. I am now at day 7 of protein only and still nothing! Now I know everyone will say take something but again fibre or any type of bowel stimulant will do the same thing-my bowel will just stop working altogether. I am not constipated-I probably have diareah but the bowel just goes to sleep. I have tried colonics and still nothing. I have had the best results with this diet (not intro) eating mainly protein, broth and soft cooked vegies with HCI and pepsin AND (here's the kicker) chocolate and some codeine. This combination helps me to become regular and normal. Perfectly formed daily (sometimes twice or thrice daily) stools. I have never experienced 'normal' in all my life. I also lost 5 kgs while eating choc because my digestive track was actually being efficient for once. But I wanted to stop the chocolate as it is very addictive and feeding the yeast but each time I do my bowels go back to being irritable. So I figure I need to kill off the candida and do Intro, which I have done 3 times-it doesn't work (even with Oxypowder-that just made me worse. Herbs will give me migraines and I will end up in bed vomiting) Why is it my gut loves chocolate? Is it the fat? Maybe I can just have fat without the milk and sugar and get the same results? Does anyone have any idea why I need so many foods that will slow down my bowel and how can I do that in a healthy way so I can begin to heal my gut? I have been SCD for 6mths with infractions of chocolate for about 3mths. Thanks Sharon
Guest guest
Hi Sharon, You say that your GI system is worse after stopping chocolate. Could this be due to die off symptoms? Have you tried yogurt? Below is an article linking chocolate to IBD Mimi http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=retrieve&db=pubmed&list_uids=958502\ 9&dopt=Abstract 1: Eur J Gastroenterol Hepatol. 1998 Mar;10(3):243-9.Links Comment in: Eur J Gastroenterol Hepatol. 1998 Mar;10(3):235-7. Modern life' in the epidemiology of inflammatory bowel disease: a case-control study with special emphasis on nutritional factors. Russel MG, Engels LG, Muris JW, Limonard CB, Volovics A, Brummer RJ, Stockbrügger RW. Department of Gastroenterology, University Hospital Maastricht, The Netherlands. mru@... OBJECTIVE: The rising incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) since the Second World War coincides with profound changes of the dietary pattern. The aim of the study was to investigate the possible pathogenic role of some characteristic 'modern life' dietary factors in IBD. DESIGN: Case-control, studying risk factors in recently diagnosed cases, 290 with Crohn's disease and 398 with ulcerative colitis, compared with 616 population controls. Smoking, age, gender and education were taken into account by using logistic regression analysis. SETTING: Hospital cases and population controls. INTERVENTIONS: Questionnaires. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Logistic regression-derived odds ratios. RESULTS: A positive association with cola drinks [OR: 2.2 (95% CI 1.5-3.1)], chewing gum [OR: 1.5 (95% CI: 1.1-2.1)] and chocolate consumption [OR: 2.5 (95% CI: 1.8-3.5)] and a negative association with citrus fruit consumption [OR: 0.5 (95% CI 0.3-0.7)] and the development of Crohn's disease were found. Consumption of cola drinks [OR: 1.6 (95% CI 1.1-2.3)] and chocolate consumption [OR: 2.5 (95% CI 1.8-3.5)] were positively associated with developing ulcerative colitis. There was a negative association between the intake of citrus fruits [OR: 0.5 (95% CI 0.4-0.8)] and 'having a stuffed pet' for a period longer than 5 years [OR: 0.6 (95% CI 0.4-0.9)] and developing the disorder. No association with the frequency of tooth brushing and developing IBD was found. CONCLUSION: All the nutritional items mentioned may be true risk factors or they just might be the expression of a modern life-style also involving other risk factors for the development of IBD which at the present are still unknown. Guest guest
>Hi Sheila, I take codeine and paracetamol for headaches but also to stop diareah. When I stop eating chocolate I get diareah. Then my bowel becomes irritable and if the diareah gets bad, it will just stop working altogether as it does on intro. I only eat cooked carrot, butternut pumkin, green beans and zuchini. Perhaps I should introduce the yoghurt? When you stop the choc the yeast start dying off which can cause diarrhea as the toxins leave your body (epsom salt and/or activated charcoal are helpful to pull out the toxins). It is pretty common for the damaged bowels to swing back and forth between constipation and diarrhea. If you go 100% on the diet the yogurt may help clear things up. I wouldn't suggest doing the yogurt if you continue the choc though. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
