If I want to buy dry yoghurt starter (I live in Sweden, Europe...), I

would like your opinions about what brand? In Pecanbread info

GIProHealth is the only one mentioned, I guess there´s a reason?

GIProHealth/SCDiet/LucysKS/Digestivewellness? Other?

And why? Is someone lacking, or having, a special very needed strain

of bacteria?

Thank you, again, for advice! And for having this list, experience and

knowledge.

Lotta, with daughter 5 years, ASD and son 3 years. both SCD nov 2006

www.customprobiotics.com also has one that looks good as well.

The Progurt for GiProHealth is dairy free, and some children with

autism cannot handle any dairy at all. Personally I went with

Giprohealth, but only because they answered questions fully & quickly.

Some ASD kids can handle goat's milk yogurt. Some can handle cow's

milk yogurt. There is also the A2Milk - cow's milk without the mutated

version of casein (that is implicated in autism, type 1 diabetes,

rheumatoid arthritis, etc), but it'll take effort to locate in your

home country.

Non-dairy alternatives: nut milks, fermented cabbage juice (can use

yogurt starter, or be traditional with just salt - good for healing

intestinal mucosa).

All about ingredients & strains. As long as it's the right strain, and

doesn't have anything that will remain after the fermentation period

(such as gums).

We have had problems in the past with Harry at Custom probiotics contravening

Elaine's

protocols and substituting his own and no longer recommend that source.

Ah, interesting. He did seem quite reluctant to answer any questions

posed, giving short answers to some but not all.

thanks.

The website only lists the GiProHealth Progurt because it is a

dairyfree starter - for those who wish to remain dairy free. Another

powdered starter that many SCDers use is Lyosan's yogurt starter. It

contains some cow dairy.

In the UK some use the Total or Organic sheep milk commercial yogurts

as a starter. If doing that follow the directions in BTVC It tells

you how much you need /quart (litre)
