Guest guest
Is it ok to drink a smoothie made with homemade yogurt, blueberries and honey as part of intro diet? How about roasted chicken instead of soup? I seemed to be doing ok a couple of days ago but when I tried the smoothie with strawberries I started to have problems. There are other things that have changed so I am not sure if it is the culprit. I was wondering if the seeds could be causing me problems so I switched to blueberries today to see if it would help. I have a narrowing in my bowel. Any thoughts on foods to avoid if you have a narrowing? Anyone know a safe way to help with stomach acid problems? I was taking meds for this but had to stop if I wanted to try for another baby, now it bothers me again. Thanks,
Guest guest
Berries are a more advanced food for SCD due to the seeds. Initially when trying berries, you would want to cook them, and then strain the seeds out. This will leave you with mostly just the liquid. However, it isn't a fruit you would want to try in the initial weeks of SCD even in cooked and strained form. I would recommend trying ripe banana(raw), pealed, seeded, and cooked peaches, and/or pealed, seeded, and cooked apples. Meleah Question(s) about diet ... Guest guest
Hi , <<Is it ok to drink a smoothie made with homemade yogurt, blueberries and > honey as part of intro diet?>> Berries are not part of the intro diet. I wouldn't suggest using a lot of yogurt on the intro diet either. Elaine wrote that we could use a bit to moisten DCCC if desired, but since you ask about stomach acid problem it may be better for you to start yogurt more gradually. << How about roasted chicken instead of soup?>> Preparing chicken as directed for the soup recipe allows nutrients to come out of the bones into the broth. It also removes a lot of the fat. Fat is more difficult to digest for a damaged gut. If you have a lot of bowel symptoms it may beb better for you to begin with the easier to digest soup. You can take th meat out of the soup and eat it separately. I used to do this and then puree the carrots with the broth to make a thick creamed carrot soup. <<I seemed to be doing ok a couple of days ago but when I tried the > smoothie with strawberries I started to have problems. I have a narrowing in my> bowel. >> The raw fruit and seeds may be what caused you problems. << Any thoughts on foods to avoid if you have a narrowing?>> From: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/strictures_f oods_to_avoid.htm " Elaine Writes: The foods that may aggravate people with narrowed ileums (strictures) are raw grapes, a lot of raisins, spaghetti squash, peels of veggies and fruits, nuts eaten whole even when chewed well (nut flour in baking seems to be fine). " <<Anyone know a safe way to help with stomach acid problems?
