Guest guest
We open all capsules and mix the powder in with applesauce or pearsauce, even the enzymes. Add a touch of honey and he gets them all down in a few bites. > > We tried that. The problem is that he doesn't really have an aversion to swallowing pills, it's that he likes/loves to chew: fish oil caps, candex, s. boulardii and a few mineral caps. So then when you try to get him to swallow, he immediately chews it and if it tastes horrible he of course spits it out and looks at you like " why did you put that horrible stuff in my yummy capsule? " We can't seem to get past this preference of chewing the caps. Since he's willing to chew some pretty wierd tasting capsules, he continues to think of capsules as chewables. > > - >
Guest guest
You do this with prescription pancreatic enzymes? My GI says they will not work if the enteric coating is opened. - sklouchard wrote: We open all capsules and mix the powder in with applesauce or pearsauce, even the enzymes. Guest guest
Generic drug monograph for Pancrelipase excerpted from the following link: http://www.medscape.com/druginfo/monograph? cid=med&drugid=92795&drugname=Palcaps+20+Oral&monotype=monograph&print =1 Pancrelipase delayed-release capsules containing enteric-coated spheres, microspheres, or microtablets may be opened and the contents administered with liquids or mixed with soft food; to avoid destruction of the enteric coating, the contents should not be chewed or crushed. Contact with food that has a pH greater than 5.5–6 will dissolve the enteric coating. Pancrelipase powder may be administered with liquids or mixed with food, but care should be taken so that the powder is not inhaled.
