For the record, I called the American Bariatric

Association and asked if this was true, ann

Mallory, the Executive Director at said

that this is NOT TRUE, it is a false rumor. She

stated that Dr. Rutledge is a member in good standing.

She went on to explain that Dr. Rutledge did a

presentation at their annual meeting in Memphis last

year and there was controversy over his procedure from

members who do the RNY exclusively. She did state

that his loop procedure was thought by many to be the

old " Mason Loop " procedure, but she understood that

they were misinformed and his was modified. She

further acknowledged that the ASBS does not govern the

" yay " or " nay " on procedures, but their focus is on

public information. They would not put themselves in

jeopardy for legal trouble for slander or defamation

(an neither should that surgeon in Florida who's

meeting you attended).

Bariatric Association is trying to get Dr

Rutledge to change away from that

technique. They mentioned that there is a risk to

patients of MGB to develop

stomach cancer after a number of years. "
