Guest guest
My son has been SCD since 3/07. We have followed SCD without compromise. His language has dramatically improved and he has more 'good moments' since the diet (where he sits for a few seconds, quietly). We will not do any other diet as we believe this is the healthiest way for him. My question is concerning his behavior. He is doing one of these behaviors almost constantly all day long: rocking, growling, laughing, snapping his arms, hitting his head, jumping on his toes while flapping his arms, or echolalia. We are all at our whits end and I put a msg. into his specialist today to see about some kind of drug. I want to know if anyone has to put your child on something to help them slow down or just what you do. Is there something SCD legal? Any advise would help. We all feel that we're doing more harm than good (outside of the diet) since we are so frustrated from trying to make him stop (and joining him doesn't help as he can out-do us all!). Thanks, Thatcher

Any difference preSCD and now? What foods is he eating? Does he have any other symptoms: Rashes on skin, tongue, constipation etc..? Are you using any probiotics, yogurt etc..? Guest guest
Sheila, BM's pre-SCD: loose or runny, most of them with undigested food, many times sandy. SCD BM's: well formed (about 30%), formed at the beginning then turns to a pile of loose runs (60%), completely runny with undigested food floating in the toilet (10%). The last 10% has been happening since I stopped pureeing his vegies recently (trying to get him to start chewing). Usually BM's are dark brown or orange/brown. Foods: (all SCD compliant) applesauce apple juice from cooked apples (50% water added) peach sauce carrots grn. beans (froz. french cut) spinach zucchini (grn. & yellow) tomato asparagus butternut & buttercup squash garlic pumpkin raw banana (occasionally) pecan butter (occasionally) avacado (occasionally) mustard chicken beef pork bone broth eggs (8-10 @ brkfst) olive oil, coconut oil, safflower oil ea. day: 1 SCDophilus (mixed in morning sauce) 1 Nordic Naturals DHA from Purified Fish Oil One behavior that I didn't mention is that he can hardly finish his meal (often still has the food in his mouth) and gets down & jumps around acting like a crazy person. Thatcher 3.5, autism, mild CP, SCD since 3/07 any other SCDers in Hawaii w/ASD keiki? Re: diet & medication Hi , <<My son has been SCD since 3/07. We have followed SCD without > compromise. It would seem as if he is not tolerating something he is now eating. If you do this leave enough time between each food to determine how it is tolerated. If he has a bm every day than you should be able to see the change in stool that way. So you could try a new food every1.5 -2 days. If he only has a bm every2-3 days you'll have to wait longer to see if it is tolerated. If you want to try this let me know and i'll help you figure which to add back in first. 8-10 eggs/day is too many. Can you add tolerated veggiesor homemade burgers etc.. to his breakfast instead? Are you taking any other supplements? Is it homemade pecan butter? Are the zucchini peeled? Does your mustard have garlic powder or onion powder or " spices " ? Is your chicken or other meat seasoned? > Foods: (all SCD compliant) > applesauce > apple juice from cooked apples (50% water added) > peach sauce > carrots > grn. beans (froz. french cut) > spinach > zucchini (grn. & yellow) > tomato > asparagus > butternut & buttercup squash > garlic > pumpkin > raw banana (occasionally) > pecan butter (occasionally) > avacado (occasionally) > mustard > chicken > beef > pork > bone broth > eggs (8-10 @ brkfst) > olive oil, coconut oil, safflower oil > ea. day: > 1 SCDophilus (mixed in morning sauce) > 1 Nordic Naturals DHA from Purified Fish Oil > > One behavior that I didn't mention is that he can hardly finish his meal (often still has the food in his mouth) and gets down & jumps around acting like a crazy person. > > Thatcher > 3.5, autism, mild CP, SCD since 3/07 > any other SCDers in Hawaii w/ASD keiki? Guest guest
Thank you Sheila for your help and time! *I'll do the pureeing again. *After 3 mo. I re-did the intro trying to identify any problems. I really took it slow....just don't know what I'm looking for I guess. Thank you for the offer to help me through another one. I'll gear up for this. *I'll make sure to do more veggies & meat. How many eggs per brkfst would you suggest? *No other supplements. *Yes, it's homemade pecan butter. *Yes, zucchini are peeled. *Mustard is Western Family: vinegar, water, mustard seed, salt, turmeric, paprika. I'm out of the one we usually use which is the Wal Mart brand. *Spices I've used: sea salt, whole garlic, dried tarragon, dried oregano, one time used fresh ground blk. pepper. Many thanks for all your input on PB. Thatcher son , autism, mild CP, SCD since 3/07 Re: diet & medication Hi , <<BM's pre-SCD: loose or runny, most of them with undigested food, many times sandy.
