Guest guest
I was told by MtD specialist, that if a child has MtD it is sometimes contraindicated to give DMG, HBOT or chelation. Good thing to think about since some are thinking that most ASD children might have MtD. Since I am not a MtD specialist, I am not sure why, nor can give reason to why...but we where warned by mito specialist to not do these things until we got her test results back. I just took their word for it for now. After seeing SCD make my daughter so much better...I do not want to mess around much. I have also learned that Elaine did not like the DAN! movement that much. I personally am not thrilled about the DAN! movement either. I think that many of these doctors are truly messing with the unknown...turning our ASD children into guinea pigs. Good for those with good results...truly devastating and sad for those that are not doing that well...and GET WORSE. Both exist. The good the bad and the ugly testimonies. I have read some ugly testimonies...it truly worries me. Chelation is known to take away giftedness. I asked if this was true....and Kucera a DAN! here in Colorado Springs Colorado, said it was. I was shocked. For this reason alone...we will never do Dan! protocol chelation. For we have a few gifts to protect in this house of ASD. We all have to make choices though. Just voicing my opinion and fears. We chose to be conservative and not go to the DAN! anymore. We trust the MtD docs much more. Maybe because we are unique...I do not know...maybe all with ASD have MtD they just do not know it. I truly do not know. We got all the benefits that we have so far from fanatical SCD, multivitamins, CLO, B complex, B12 spray, calcium, Vitamin K ....and lots and lots of legal SCD food. We stopped the DMG until we get Kiki's results. I do know that DMG can mess with amino acid balance with some MtD kids. We where going to do HBOT...but some are saying that it is not good for some forms of MtD, so we will wait for that one. Yet, know that it has helped a few remarkably so...but have read testimony when it did not work that well. I am still learning to why MtD specialist warn about this one. As for chelating...SCD took away all her heavy metal symptoms....we have yet to test if they are gone...assuming that they are. Elaine's diet cured a man with heavy metals....I wish more knew about this. I do not trust chelation. BUT will always trust SCDiet. SCD can not hurt...yet can always make improvements...both big and small. In are case...nothing short of a miracle. God Bless every ones healing journey, Antoinette and family of five silly yaks...house of ASD...
Guest guest
I find the chelation taking away giftness comment interesting since iel has been very obviously gifted with voice since about 14 months old. He has been able to " sing " in perfect kpitch, tune, whatever you want to call it even before he could make any intelligable sounds. I have to say that I have noticed that it isn't quite as good over the past couple of months, and wonder why that is. Once again, it's something for me to discuss with our DAN on Wednesday. Guest guest
FYI, the authors of the MtD article you posted are using all the treatments below, especially HBOT to correct mito functioning. I would say this about DAN... they are no different from any other doctor of any specialty, which is to say that 10 % are exceptionally good. Most people are having their experiences with the other 90%. I would not go by symptoms alone to decide if metals are gone. I know recovered kids who are still being found to have toxicity. - Bunce wrote: I was told by MtD specialist, that if a child has MtD it is sometimes contraindicated to give DMG, HBOT or chelation. Guest guest
I will second the thing that says about recovered kids still being found to have high heavy metal levels. There is a five year old boy in my neighborhood who is recovered. Dr. Mumper had his metal levels checked about a month ago just to make sure that it was taken care of. Well, it wasn't, and she was shocked because he is so normal. Guest guest
FYI -- they have made those comparisons and the ASD kids have about 3X the mercury of the typical kids. It was pointed out over the weekend that there is no such thing as a " control group " since we are all in fact exposed to mercury. Still, I think we all know -- it's so much more than JUST mercury. - kikijabunce wrote: Meleah said: " I will second the thing that says about recovered kids still being found to have high heavy metal levels. Guest guest
Antoinette, Thanks for the comment about chelation taking away giftedness. I have been pondering some things in the last few days especially and that comment really helps me put it all in perspective. It gave me the missing link to the whole thought process of the why's, how's and are they messed up questions re our ASD kids. Guest guest
I don't know if chelation takes away from giftedness as much a recovery takes away from giftedness. The child I brought up recovered on diet and supplements alone and while his non-verbal IQ was measured in the profoundly gifted range, his verbal IQ (after he was considered recovered) was average/normal. This child was never chelated. He was recovered prior to all of the new chelators being available. If you look at the SPECT scan studies, people with autism have hypoperfusion in many important parts of their brains, and may have hyperperfusion in sections (savant skills). So they have not enough blood flow to many parts/too much to one particular area. When that is corrected, the entire brain normalizes and some disproportionate skills may be lost. This is not only going to happen with chelation, but any therapy that addresses the immune system as the under/over perfused brain is thought to come from immune dysregulation. SCD is a diet that improves immune functioning (to what extent, I do not know -- that is probably dependent on the individual's overall condition), therefore success on the SCD diet might also take away giftedness (my thoughts only) if that giftedness is at the expense of a brain that is largely underperfused. - Bonita Todd wrote: Antoinette, Thanks for the comment about chelation taking away giftedness.
