How does self pay work? I think my insurance is going to pay, but I am just

curious what I am up against if it doesn't. Has anyone else had BlueCross

BlueShield of North Carolina?

Thanks,

Dedee

Dedee,

I was a self pay and I needed deposits: Durham Regional $11,000.

Anesthsia $910.

Dr. R. $3450.

I've received about $3200. back already from the hospital deposit, but the $910,

and Dr. R's is gone !!

Yes Dedee, I agree it was a lot of money to come up with. But, you know I

checked into Laprascopic RNY at the University of Chicago Hospitals, and was

flabergasted at the $45,000. cost. I checked into open-RNY at St. 's

medical Ctr. in Indinapolis, it was about $23,000.

So, actually even tho we have to have it all up front, it's still the cheapest

way to go. Not to mention the very best type of surgery we can have for weight

loss. I'd do it again in a min.

Dedee, I am a self pay and I am going to go to on 12-21-00 for

surgery. I got my calls from everyone and I need to bring $910 for

anesthesia, $7000 for and $3450 for Dr. R. I have heard that some

get refunds of around $2200. Good luck!

Dedee,

I don't have BCBS/NC but I was a self pay.

1. Deposit of $900 one week ahead to Durham anesthesia. Balance was $80 -

they billed me the same week I arrived home.

2. Full payment up front to Dr. R. With cash discount $3455.

3. Full payment up fron to Durham Regional $11,000. The surgery ended up

being $8800 and I am still waiting for the refund.

Hope the information helps but hoping harder you don't have to go the

self-pay route.
