Guest guest
IT is best for the child to learn how to swallow them whole. But when a child can not swallow them whole, both our doctors gave permision to give Creon and Ultrase in apple sauce. What choice do we have? These enzymes are given to CF chldren...they have to have them...and not all can swallow them. I was told by GI doc that aS long as they do not sit in the mouth they will not cause harm. If they open in the mouth, and just sat there, her doctor said they could burn. To drink plenty after the apple sauce and enzymes. This keeps them from " chewing " as much. We where finnaly able to teach our daughter how to swallow the capsules. She is only three...and with much work and making it fun she can do it. These enzymes have worked much better than any powders. WE tried all of them...none of them match up. If you kid has PI, just make sure that your doctor works with you to get the right doseage and strength. Antoinette
Guest guest
Hi Antoinette, Please refer to message # 68825 where I posted the drug monograph for Pancrelipase which is the generic drug for Creon and Ultrase. The monograph states that it is okay to open the capsule and pour the contents on the food, as long as the enteric coating on the microspheres is not chewed apart. This is in agreement with your GI's suggestions. - Sally G. > > IT is best for the child to learn how to swallow them whole. > > But when a child can not swallow them whole, both our doctors gave > permision to give Creon and Ultrase in apple sauce.
