Guest guest
Hi Jeanne, <<To clarify: recently his colon was good but his upper GI scope was bad (?). Yes colon was great but still inflammation of the lining of his stomach and acid reflux issues. How long ago were both tests done? First was done when he was 3yrs old and recent was done this past April at 7yrs old.>> <<What foods is he eating? He eats veggie pizza (made with pecan flour, avacado, broccoli, sea salt, olive oil) chicken pancakes, chicken, steak, squash fries, cookies (made with pecan flour, vanilla extract, cinnimon), pears, bananas, mango. > > Please list all supplements used in the last few months: Zinc, Vit E, Vit C, Vit A, CoQ10, Grape Seed Extract, Citrimin II, Buffered Magnesium Glynicate, Molybendum, Calicum Citrate, Vit D, FolaCal, DHA/EPA and Compounded B-Vits. Everything is hypo-allergenic from Thorne, Kirkman and VRP. > > Are you using yogurt/probiotics? Yes probiotics>> Have you tried yogurt or other fermented foods? <<How long on SCD? 3 yrs. > > Have you tried any of the natural remedies: extra water daily, small > frequent meals instead of larger less frequent meals, raw garlic. He drinks water all day long, and he eats his 3 meals and snacks in between.>> I think the idea with small meals is to increase the number so that there is not as much food in the stomach at a time. So you'd have to increase the number of meals and reduce the amount of food given at each - but retain the same quantity /day. Also avoid eating 2-3 hrs before bed. This may not fix the problem but it may help ease symptoms. <<Has he been tested for a hiatal hernia or H. pylori? Yes he was tested for H.Pylori when he was scoped in April and it was negative and doctor never said he had a hernia when he was examined.>> Any possible reason/ cause of the acid reflux? Anything from the doctor? <<This is why it is so frustrating why he still has gut issues. >> It sounds as if he is digesting the food well (since his colon is doing great) but something is causing the stomach inflammation. This may not fix the problem but it may help ease symptoms. He does eat pretty good, but it's hard to increase his meals because he's in school (summer camp) and doesn't get home until 3:30pm. So he does have breakfast, then I pack snack and lunch for him, when he gets home he has another snack. I do feed him dinner early at 5:30pm and he doesn't go to bed until 8:30pm so he does have 3 hours to digest before going to bed. <tested for H.Pylori when he was scoped in April and it was negative and doctor never said he had a hernia when he was examined.>> Any possible reason/ cause of the acid reflux? Anything from the doctor? GI doctor told us because of his inflammation it's causing the acid reflux, so if he fix the inflammation he wouldn't have the acid reflux. He also always test very high for esopinhols (allergies). Both GI doc and DAN doctors state it's hard to determine if it's environmental or food allergies, but because he's on a the SCDiet they don't think it's food. All his supplements are hypoallergenic and SCDiet legal. The next medication the GI doctor and DAN doctor wants us to try is Gastrocrom. <> It sounds as if he is digesting the food well (since his colon is doing great) but something is causing the stomach inflammation. Yes he is digesting the food well, he looks very healthy, he's not fat nor thin, he's just right. His skin, hair and nails grow fast and look very healthy. I just don't know why he still has inflammation of his stomach lining. This is why my husband and I are SO FRUSTRATED, because he don't know what else to do. What it may be is reactions to the types of food he is eating. I stopped my drugs for UC last year because they were making me ill in one way. Unfortunately at the same time they were helping in a different way. They were dampening my reaction to arachidonic acid in foods. So, one type of inflammation I had decreased as soon a sI stopped the meds but another became very bad when I ate certain foods. The worst happened after I ate some homemade roast beef. I did some reading and found that grain fed meats are high in arachidonic acid. I switched to grass fed, antibiotic free, hormone free meats (incl eggs and butter) and almost immediately the inflammation subsided. I tested it a afew times and as time goes on my reaction is less and less severe. Although my inflammation is mostly in the colon his may be higher in the tract because that is his " weak " area. I also started CLO with EPA and DHA (Elaine's suggested amounts of Vit D and A) and that helped a little extra also (helps reduce inflammation). > It sounds as if he is digesting the food well (since his colon is > doing great) but something is causing the stomach inflammation. My docs wanted to treat the inflammation - I wanted to get rid of what caused the inflammation. Are your meats grain fed? For me, roasts and steaks were the worst - instant pain. Guest guest
Hi Sheila: Yes, the GI doc prescribed Pepcid and Pentasa and he didn't do well on those medications, alot of behavior and stomach pain issues. Our GI doc said to take him off everything and start the aloe vera juice or try the Gastrocom. Please feel free to email me off list. Thanks Jeanne Sheila Trenholm wrote: Hi Jeanne, <> > doctor?
