Guest guest
Hi folks- Well, our whole family started the SCD this weekend, and we have been having some interesting things happen. My son's petit mal epilepsy seemed to get alot better the first day or two, then it is increasing- do you think that die-off could have this effect? He had really bad cramping, sweating and diahrea for about 2 hours yesterday, and has been fine since, but his seizures are more frequent. My husband has been feeling dizzy, and after testing last night we found out he was in ketosis. Any suggestions regarding how to avoid this? He was a big carb eater, so this is a huge change for him. Any thoughts are appreciated! By the way, I'm feeling great, and so is my youngest son! Tracey

SCD is not a low carb diet. It isn't suppposed to be. What is your husband eating? Please let us know as we can come up with some delicious carb loaded ideas. SCD is about the KIND of carbs to eat not eliminating them. Have you both read the book, " Breaking the Vicious Cycle? " SCD has cookies, bread, crackers, pizza, ice cream, lasagna and that ius just a drop in the lunch bucket. We use nut flour for baked goods and spoecially treated dairy with the lactose removed. Guest guest
" SCD is not a low carb diet. It isn't suppposed to be. " I think I goofed in how I characterized him- he was a big WHEAT eater- so he is having trouble transitioning, and we are at the beginning stages so I haven't given the nut flours yet. But, last night he had a pile of butternut squash, and has been going to town on fruits, so last we checked, he is out of K. But I am really glad for your post, as it will help me " comfort " him as we all get into the groove. Any thoughts on the seizures getting worse? That is really what is making me a bit squeamish, although I logically know that it is likely to get worse before it improves. Thank you so much! SCD is not supposed to be so I am forwarding this to an expeienced parent of a seizure child for further suggestions. Carol F.
Guest guest
Hi Tracey <<My son's petit mal epilepsy seemed to get alot better the first day or two, then it is > increasing- do you think that die-off could have this effect?>> It is possible. You could try epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal to remove toxin build up from microbial die off.
