Guest guest
Aloha I wasn't sure if this was off the track - but thought this info helpful to families making the shift from GF/DF to SCD. Having a strong background in understanding the effects of gluten on the brain can be very helpful in implementing the SCDiet. My children and I are switching over from GF/DF to SCD and I am finding the kids making the switch fairly well as they have a basic understanding of how food effects them especially gluten. They are pretty open to further improving their BM habits and see it as a natural progression. My eldest with epilepsy takes her health very seriously and welcomes any improvement to her condition. They are looking forward to the intro of yoghurt! We have been dairy /soy / lactose/casein free for quite some time! I would like to share this website as it gives great insight as to how gluten can effect the brain. DrGluten.com For those who are making the switch - like us - remember all your hard work and research being GF/DF is going to set you up very well in implementing the SCDiet! Approaching SCD with the same determination - yet accepting the changes and challenges involved in SCD - will reap positive results. Guest guest
Hi Margit, Thank you very much for the info. I want to clarify to new members of our list that SCD is also GF. Children who do SCD also receive the benefits to the brain from the removal of gluten. What is really exciting is that SCD children get the additional relief from the removal of bacterial toxins. The latest research shows that a type of bacterial toxins called endotoxin causes major damage to the brain. Endotoxin has several other names: LPS and lipopolysaccharide. We have made a special website about LPS and autism. http://microbialinfluence.com The section about how the bacterial toxin, LPS, affect the brain is on this webpage: http://microbialinfluence.com/Brain.html If you have any trouble understanding any of the articles, then just ask for help. We are here to help the poets on this list. Mimi

My children and I are so excited to have found SCD to address the very bacterial toxins you speak of! I spent sometime investigating the benefits of SCD and was thrilled to see it was going to address our GLUTEN issues and the issue of LPS. We have been on this journey for 10 years and have been GF for 3 years. Taking the leap into SCD seems less daunting knowing there are still GI symptoms as well as brain dysfunction that may be more accurately addressed by this diet. The articles you posted hold a wealth of information so poignant for those who are still having problems on fanatical GF/CF. Before I discovered pecanbread.com I had not heard of SCD. In the three weeks I have spent reading this board, reading BTVC, and reorgaanising my kitchen! I have learned so much. For this I am very grateful and hope to bring what I am learning to others in my community unaware of SCD. The Gluten Free/ Dairy Free diet saved us at a time where nothing else was making a difference. In fact our going GF/DF was viewed very unusual even three years ago! I anticipate the SCDiet is going to again impact our lives phenomenally! In fact it already has! My eldest daughter has been ravaged with digestive problems from 4 months of age. At 5 she was diagnosed with a partial seizure disorder. I had a feeling they were connected. I have struggled since then to have anyone validate the connection between her bowel problems and her siezure disorder. Finding the GLUTEN connection I realise for us was the first piece in a rather large puzzle. Discovering the carbohydrate connection to bacterial toxins in the bowel is of course very exciting - we are perhaps a few steps closer to understanding how to manage the bodies we have been blessed with! I am a newbie to SCD and I come here with the utmost respect for those who provide much needed support and research for families like my own. I bring with me perseverance, compassion and the ability to make changes and learn. I know if I apply the knowledge so diligently collected by so many great minds another peice of my families puzzle will be placed. With each success we will be better equipped to search for and place the pieces presented to us in the future. Margit GF/DF 3 years, 3kids, GI Probs, Celiac Gene, Epilepsy Transitioning to SCD!
