Guest guest
Hello Xemina, I am relatively new to SCD but have been treating my sons yeast for over 10 months now under two DAN practioners (one nutrionalist and one doctor) The thing with yeast is that when it dies off it bursts and releases toxins into the system and this causes all the problems we get with the die-off. It makes the child feel very ill on top of this. I had a very prolonged die-off with my son as we tried different things and it was hard going. We eventually ended up doing a course of Flagyll and an ongoing course of Nystatin and on a big dose of 3 half teaspoons a day (he is only 4). I think you will get a lot of help from your DAN as they are all about kiiing yeast and when you do get rid of it you have to keep it away so it is great to have someone over see this. I thoughts are that your daughter is in prolonged die-off - which means you are just attacking the yeast and not actually killing it off. It may be that you too need a higher strength yeast killer - but this is something that your DAN will help you with. Perhaps you need to remove the fruit and honey from the diet too to keep from feeding the yeast anything. Anyway, I do hope this helps, do not worry you will get there with it eventually. All the best, Sophie x > > Hello everyone, > I need some guidance here. My daughter has been SCD for 5 months with ups and downs, but showing some improvement anyway. Her diet is still very basic and her stools switch from loose stools to well formed with no apparent reason. I suspect she has yeast issues so I started her on Candex and probiotics but she had a really bad reaction to it. When I started the vitamin K protocol with her she had an extremely hard reaction to it, so I stopped that too. I want to keep the yeast protocol but I really don't know how to handle this situation since she becomes agressive, irritable, cries very often for no reason and wakes up in the middle of the night, sometimes ready to play and some other times crying as if having a nightmare. Is it common? > > I'm not sure what's really causing all that, I think " die-off " reaction has a too extensive meaning for me. Guest guest
Thank you Shopie for the information. I think it's better then to wait for her appointment with the DAN! doctor to see what she recommends. In the meantime I guess the best I can do is to keep fruit and honey at its minimun (I have been doing it, anyway) and 100% SCD legal. Guest guest
Hi Ximena, <<When I started the vitamin K protocol with her she had an extremely hard reaction to it, so I stopped that too.>> When you did the vitamin K protocol did you use the VSL#3? The VSL #3 contains bifidum bacteria which has been known to trigger GI flares in SCDers. If you did use the VSL#3, how long ago did you stop? Guest guest
Hello Sheila. No, I didn't use the VSL#3 or any other probiotic but was using Magnesium Glycinate. Didn't have the chance. She was having 1 drop/day and even whith that small amount, she became very agressive and had the worst diarrhea ever. She has always been a very calm, sweet little girl and seeing her like that scared me so much that I stopped the protocol. I think she was not ready. I thought it was because of some sugar she accidentally ate, but she reacts that way to any new protocol I implement. The reaction is usually worse than expected. I just ordered the SCDophilus to change the probiotic in the yeast protocol, but she's waking up very early in the morning since I started the protocol, even now when I'm not using the Candex (I'm waiting for the probiotic). I really want to do something to help her and I hear wonderfull things from the moms on the list when they use certain protocols but I feel so bad because I'm affraid to do anything new because of her reaction. I know she's suppose to react to it, but not in such exagerated way. I don't know what to do, all of this only shows me that she has real issues with detoxification and it seems to be very complicated:( So, what do you think? Should I continue with the yeast protocol changing the probiotic? I really appreciate your help, sharing your experience with a clueless mom like me:) On the other hand, thank God for the diet and for all the list moderators and moms who have always been a great help. Since she started SCD, she has been more connected with us, and every day she's socializing a little bit more even with people out of the family circle. This gives me strength to continue... Thanks. God bless. Guest guest
Hi Ximena, Are you able to use the epsom salt baths or activated charcoal? For your daughter the act. charcoal may work better to help with die off symptoms. It sounds as if her body is being overloaded with toxin release and it is affecting her intensely. If her symptoms are not too bad right now, you may want to wait a while before adding any new protocols (yeast probiotics). Since you are going to see a DAN soon they should be able to give you a more definitive diagnosis. It sounds as if the diet is slowly helping her improve with increased connection and socialization Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and > Hello Sheila. > No, I didn't use the VSL#3 or any other probiotic but was using Magnesium Glycinate.
