Guest guest
I am thinking of getting a juicer. We are still early in the stages, just past the intro phase. On the early stages a juicer has to remove the pulp right? Would this juicer be suitable for us? http://www.lnt.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2364630&cp=1770189&sr=1&origkw=ju\ icer&parentPage=family Would it be wiser to wait until we can digest the pulp and just get an Omega or VitaMix instead? Does anyone have any comments about the usefulness of having a juicer for the early stages? I'm thinking it might be nice to be able to make carrot juice, tomato juice, pear juice, etc etc. Our garden is spitting out tomatoes and we can't eat them yet. We are up to our armpits in 'maters. I'm thinking I need to make tomato juice! :-) Thanks in advance for any opinions on this! Guest guest
Hi, I can't comment on the juicer you asked about but I remember posts from way back that if you get a juicer like the Omega, you can have many different kinds of juices, even early in the diet (even though the fruit or veg is at a higher " Stage " when eaten " as is " ). The juicing breaks down the cell walls or something so that all the fruits and veggies you juice are highly digestible. You still have to dilute with 50% water. And there was a caution from a person very much into juicing who seems to no longer be on the list that we should not over-do consumption of juice; but please don't ask me why because this is not my area of expertise. , mom to > > I am thinking of getting a juicer. Guest guest
I can't speak (being a newbie) about the juicer for early stages, but I talk about juicers. My husband had a Champion juicer a few years before we married 17 years ago and it is still going strong. We gave it to a friend whose wife had a vicious form of breast cancer and so we ended up buying another. They are very pricey ($300 in 2000) and you may not be able to afford it. If you can and do, it has a 1/3 horsepower motor that you just can't kill. But, aside from that, the Juiceman Juicer is pretty good for a much more reasonable price. If you ever buy any of them, I'll give you a tip on filtering it. After it runs through the juicer and the juicer filters out all it can, I still take a new nylon knee hi (works great as it fit nicely over a small funnel and into a regular tea glass) or new pair of nylon (no cotton crotch) just for filtering. That will filter out any fine powder residue left in there. I and my son can't deal with any grit at all. We LOVE our juicer. With ours we can make homemade peanut butter or other nut butters also, but it can be cost prohibitive. Bonita Advice for juicer on early stages.... I am thinking of getting a juicer. Guest guest
I do know from experience that too much carrot juice can cause diahrea (at pretty large doses), but it has so many vitamins and minerals that if you are really run down, you can get a buzz from it. My husbands old roommate before we married asked " what's in that stuff " because he got a buzz off it. Of course it is safe and shorter lived. Bonita Re: Advice for juicer on early stages.... Guest guest
Early or advanced, always dilute. Otherwise, you're asking your body to deal with a big load of fruit sugar all at once. Not good. , mom to
Guest guest
Hi. Yes we do plan to dilute it still and not to overdo it. I think some of the negative about juice is that it raises your blood sugar so quickly because it is absorbed so fast. We balance that by eating some protein along with it. This balances the blood sugar reaction some. My son can't tolerate many carbs at all right now, so I'm thinking some occasional juice might just be a life saver until he is able to tolerate more foods. Guest guest
That is good to know. We will stay away from too much carrot juice for sure then! We just cleared up the diarrhea. :-) That is funny that you can get a buzz from it. Shall I bring some to the next social event I go to, LOL? Everyone drinking wine and beer and me with my carrot juice? LOL!!!!! K in Dayton, Ohio Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Fibro, CFS, yeast/candida, copper overload, adrenal fatigue(mostly healed!!!) Guest guest
We bought a Breville at Macys last month. It's got a big motor, so you can put an entire apple in it without cutting. It was on sale for $150. So far so good. It has a lot of pieces to clean, but they are dishwasher safe.
