My daughter's naturopath ordered a basic nutrient supplement (Thorne

Research) for my daughter which contains iron (I didn't know until I

picked it up and I have told her about the legal & illegal

supplement such as cellulose, glycerine and things like that but

didn't give her the list for legal & illegal foods to take).

My question is, how dangerous is it to have iron supplement (as Iron

Picolinate

0.75mg per capsule and she is allowed to take up to 3 capsules a day

(12.5% DV for 3 capsules). I don't really want to waste ít as it

looks so good and very high in B12 vitamin, but I don't want to take

a risk for my daughter either.

I have asked my daughter's GP, he told me that iron supplement can

cause inflamation in the intestine but he said it is okay for her to

take it (it is probably because of the blood test result??)

27 Jul 2007, Iron Studies

Iron: 16 umol/l ( 5-23 )

Iron binding capacity: 40 umol/l ( 38-76 )

Iron saturation: 0.40 ( 0.10-0.42 )

Ferritin: 77 ug/l ( 12-140 )

She took half capsule this morning but I prefer to wait until I get

answer from the forum. Please help, I can't make decision whether it

is safe for her to take this supplement.

thanks.
