Hi folks.

I began the diet two weeks ago in hopes that after three years and at

the age of 35 I can defeat ulcerative colitis. I have so far

followed the diet perfectly with the exception of using cheapo

vanilla extract a week ago.

That being said I was hoping to give and receive support from someone

else going through this. Thus my joining this group.

First and foremost, there doesn't seem to be much literature of

discussion out there of what changes one is supposed to see and

when. For instance, just prior to my starting the diet, I had excess

gas, bloody mucus, lots of mucus, lots of trips to the bathroom often

producing nothing but mucus and or drops of blood. So far, after two

weeks, I seem to have a lot less gas, and there have been fewer trips

to the bathroom. Still plenty of mucus, and still blood in it or

with the stool.

I was wondering if there is anyone out there with similar symptoms

who may be ahead of me at this point. Someone who might be able to

describe their progress, ups and downs, etc.

One question I have: is initial " progress " made from the very act of

eating a lot less fiber? Am I going less because there is very

little fiber in my diet compared to when I was a vegan? Yes I was a

vegan for 7 years prior to this change. It has been bizarre. I

should also point out that I have never taken a prescription drug for

UC.

Thanks for any feedback you may have.

Hi

I am new at this too, having started the diet a week and a half ago.

I am a 36 year old woman with Crohn's disease. I was just diagnosed

last month. I don't have the typical symptoms yet (no diarrhea, just

burning pain and a sense of fullness in my LRQ) and so it is hard for

me to gauge improvement on the diet. I don't know the answer to your

question about the initial changes being brought about by reduction in

fiber but there are many knowledgeable people here and I'm sure you

will get a thoughtful response. Mostly I just wanted to say hi and

welcome you. I wish you well -
