Guest guest
Hi guys, I need an opinion from any of you that have already danced at Durham Regional. I am scheduled to go in a couple of weeks. My husband will be taking me in the morning and then going to the office. I have an angel of a little girl who is almost 12. She and I are very close and she wants to spend the day with Mom. I know the surgery takes 30-45 minutes but how long are you in the recovery room? Do you spend the rest of the day sleeping when you come back to your regular room? I would love to have her with me because I'm sort of nervous. I know she would sit there quietly and read but I hate the thought of her being there alone or at least being stuck there with me when all I want to do is sleep. Of course there is always a slight possibility of complications and that would be awful for her to be around. I'm definately leaning towards no but I'd love the opinions of experienced neutral parties. Thanks, Elaine ************************************************* Elaine Do you live in the Durham area? I have an 11 yr old daughter who I am bringing with me for my surgery next Friday. I am looking for someone for her to play with (maybe swimming at the pool where we are staying at the La Quinta). Loredana will also be at the hospital with my husband while I am having surgery. I will have her bring a book, game-boy. She and I are really close and there was no way I could be away from her for more than a day or two. Let me know if you are in the local area...okay? Guest guest
Elaine I don't think I would recommend it. I had the best possible experience and I wouldn't want my children to see what I was like right after surgery. And you do sleep most of the day. My friend said I looked pretty rough when she first saw me. I had surgery at 10 and don't remember anything until late in the afternoon. Then I was in and out. I think I looked worse than I felt, tho. Margaret in St. Louis MGB 12/13/00 --- elaine711@... wrote: > Hi guys, > I need an opinion from any of you that have already > danced at Durham Regional. Guest guest
Elaine, Every one of us has a different experience. Some people are up walking 30 minutes after they get back to their room; some of us are not really aware of much til midnight or the next morning. A lot depends on when in the day you're operated on. I had surgery at 1:30 in the afternoon. I came alive again at midnight! And I had a couple events of dry heaves before my awareness. I hear my color was like a ghost, and I really was out of it. You know your daughter. I doubt she'd be traumatized either way. Bored to tears she might be. That's all I can say. PhillyJude

Guest guest
Margaret, As much as I am sure your daughter is a little lady, I am not so sure I'd want mine there when I came out of surgery! If there are any complications during surgery, or immediately afterwards she probably wouldn't be able to handle it by herself. And as nice as all the nurses are... I doubt if they would have the time to keep her much company. This is only my thought, my surgery went really well, 33 min. and I was only in recovery about 1 hour, I was very sleepy and wanted to be left alone for several hours. It's your call. Guest guest
Jude, Thanks for the advice. I've pretty much decided that she shouldn't go. Like you said, she'd probably be bored to tears. She insists that she'll be worried about me and would rather be there but I think I'll try and make other arrangements so she can check up on me by phone from school via her Dad. Guest guest
Joni, It sounds like you have the same kind of relationship with your little girl as I have with mine. She is the greatest joy in my life. I truly wish that the girls could get together next week but we are leaving for Canada on Friday and will be back on Jan.2nd. I am not scheduled 'til the 8th(clinic on the fourth). I hope that everything goes wonderfully for you. My love to your family and hugs to your little one.
