Guest guest
I'm a Pre-School/Kindergarten teacher. Parents are assigned a snack day per month as the school only provides breakfast and lunch - which is also junk in my opinion. Coco puffs cereal with chocolate milk - sigh! There once was a time when the cook told me that the ketchup was the vegetable. HUH? I have to be really bossy about what is acceptable for snacks - what constitutes a healthy snack (which is not even close to what I really think - LOL!!!!!!!!! I've sent snacks back home because of what they send. First off I have a no sugar policy and they still send marshmallows, sugar coated graham crackers, fruit bites, chewy granola bars with M&M's, etc. So I learned a long time ago to just put out a list of things I will not accept and a list of items that are acceptable. I have to give specific examples AND I still get the items I said I would not accept! Come on - cheetos, potato chips, and marshmallows for a school snack after the teacher said to never send those items?????? I know many people don't have a healthy nutritional clue but they could at least follow my directions. Know what they tell me? Well that is what " name " picked out. About half of the teachers have quit serving snack due to this problem. OK I'll stop now W. Probably wouldn't work -- but can you imagine the consternation on the part of parents who think a snack is a Twinkie? - Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund . My background is psychology and special education. I did individual tutoring here and there, but when Mimi asked me if I'd like to help out with Elaine's Children (as this group was originally), I jumped at it. I've been very quiet the last few years thanks to pressure from living in a city destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and elderly parents. But it's so nice to see parents -- and teachers -- who care. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
I find that intersting as we send our son's snack with him to preschool since what they provide doesn't constitute a healthy snack in my opinion. Once again, they ask the parents to provide snack(which is fine). Parents are supposed to bring in one bottle of juice, one salty snack, and one sweet snack. Preschool is only in the morning. So, the other kids are getting a cup of juice(not SCD legal, so filled with sugar), some kind of sweet snack like cookies, and some kind of salty snack like chips. Even if iel weren't SCD, I would be very disturbed that he was being fed junk for snack at school. I do know another SCD girl at the preschool whose mom was even told that her baggies of nuts and raisins wasn't acceptable(not in those exact words) because the other kids were having salty and sweet snack. Give me a break.----- Original Message ----- From: Ed Wendell To: pecanbread Sent: Thursday, August 09, 2007 7:51 PM Subject: Re: was Martian Pudding now school snacks I'm a Pre-School/Kindergarten teacher. Guest guest
I know, it is just us quirky Montessori teachers " I think " - at least all the Children's House teachers (ages 3,4,5,6) in my building are picky in this way. I have also had " teacher's kids " in my class and they show up eating donuts or Mc's at 7:50 AM when school starts, and put candy in their lunches. We're an all day program. Before school program starts at 7:00 AM and after school goes till 6:00 PM - After school kids are provided a junk snack by the district. I serve water with every snack And provide cups in every cubby so the kids can get a drink whenever they want. W. Re: was Martian Pudding now school snacks I'm a Pre-School/Kindergarten teacher.
