Guest guest
Hi everyone, I,ve just started the diet on Monday for my daughter Jasmine. She is tube fed, so everything is going down her tube for now. She was sick on Wednesday but seemed fine and today we have the sandy stool issue. Reading through the posts, I am not sure if it an oxalate issue or die off from yeast, and I am not sure how to proceed. Jazzy suffers from severe hypoglycaemia, so I have been adding honey to the chicken stock. So far she has had:- chicken stock with honey ripe banana raw egg boiled chicken with pureed carrots and I made a pancake with ground almonds, egg and honey. Not sure if this has caused the sandiness, and I know it is classed as more advanced, but I was desparate to get something down her as her tube failed yesterday. Btw, Jazzie had a calm spell on Wednesday, her hand gestures were less exaggerated and she was less manic. My husband panicked, thinking she was quiet as her blood sugar might be low, but were fine when we tested it. Phew! I wondered whether anyone had any advice about the stools, which were also like diarrhea, should I try GSE or something, or will it resolve itself without treatment. Your guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Hi Glynis, Sandy stools might be due to problems with bile as Elaine has said. No one has proved that sandy stools are a result of oxalates. The person who runs the oxalate experiment once ran tests on these sandy stools but did not find any oxalates. She then explained that the oxalates might have degraded prior to being tested. We cannot assume that it is oxalates until there is a test showing oxalates in sandy stools. The parents who do limit oxalates report changes in bile; their children's stools get lighter. So that might explain the prevalence of sandy stools for the children who are limiting their oxalates.
