Guest guest
Hi! I'm Dede - I'm new! I've had problems with my stomach all my life. Had my first GI series (upper and lower) when I was 21. I've never been diagnosed as celiac or gluten intolerant/sensitive. But when I read someone's description on another yahoo group of how their stomach had hurt after a meal and they either had to lay down on the couch or go to bed I thought " that sounds like me!! " She further went to say how life had changed for her once she discovered she was gluten intolerant. So I thought " OK, I'm going to avoid wheat/gluten for a couple of days and see what happens. " Oh My Goodness!!! I can't begin to tell you how wonderful it felt to not have my gut hurt ... but I guess a lot of you know about that!! I had enough energy to actually mop the kitchen floor without having to go lay down afterwards!! So, off I went researching, finding Silly Yaks (where I then discovered the SCD) and I'm continuing to get educated. After getting the concept of carbs (too many) staying in the gut too long, I decided to go the more serious route of SCD and bought a used book from Amazon (I'm axiously awaiting it). I'm just beginning to discover all the connections between gluten and other diseases ... overnight I've become A Gluten Evangelical!! Probably something you've all done and still do to some extent. I was talking to this woman I just met last night at my aqua aerobics class. She told me she was diabetic and she was pretty heavy. Before I knew it the words " have you tried avoiding wheat? " were coming out of my mouth.......oh gosh, I'm probably going to be one of those people that other people hate for a while. Any way, I just briefly said something about if carbs stay too long in the gut it messes everything up, including insulin. I don't think she quite understood - she said something about how her daughter got the NutriSystem diet for her.... So - I'm really enjoying reading the posts and enjoying everyone's positive additude. I'm not missing the gluten stuff -- not even looking back at it all ... I feel I've gotten my life back. Wow, such a simple thing, and yet so hard to stumble upon it because doctors seem to never bring the possibility of the problem up, do they? Looking forward to getting to know you all! Guest guest
Hi Dede. Welcome to the list. Your story with gluten sounds very similar to mine. :-) If you are interested, you can read more about my gluten evangalism (LOL!) in my photo journal: http://windraven.smugmug.com/gallery/1651983 I think you'll like this yahoo group. It is full of wisdom, practicality, and people who understand and can offer support. I don't think I would have made it near as far with my son's progress without the help of this group. K in Dayton, Ohio Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Fibro, CFS, yeast/candida, copper overload, adrenal fatigue(mostly healed!!!) Kids: son Rhowan 5 yrs old, chronic diarrhea/loose stools, yeast/candida, ADHD, salicylate intolerance; daughter Willow 6.5 yrs old, mild GI issues, salicylate intolerance Started SCD June 2006, went slightly off for awhile in Nov 2006, back on strict SCD starting May 2007. (Redid intro the last week of June 2007 and recently discovered that most carbs have to be thoroughly pureed in order for my son to tolerate them) > > Hi! Guest guest
Wow, Chris! I quickly scanned the photos and I'm going to go back and read your journal. I have hypo-thyroid (dx'd 1981) and mixed connective tissue disease (basically a low-level lupus - dx'd in 1990). Funny how these " go together " with gluten/celiac!! How tall are you? I wanted to mention what I thought was so important and crucial to woman: what our blue jean size is!!!!! Now that's definitely the MOST important size!! Dede > > > > Hi!
