Hi Kristi,

I live in Akron, Ohio where it is only about 17 degrees. This is probably

a real heatwave for you.

My name Is Pommier and I had my surgery on December 1, 2000 just

about 2 weeks ago. My pre-surgery weight was 372# and I have lost 29

pounds as of this morning.

Kristi, do not think twice about having your MGB. It has been fantastic!!

My surgery took about 37 minutes and I had no pain afterwards. There was

some soreness but no deep intense post-op pain. The staff and surgical

staff and nurses at DRH were fabulous! Very professional. I found the

hospital to be clean and comfortable.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn on Hillendale Road which was very convenient

and provided easy access to the hospital but they were renovating at the

time and there was a lot of hammering going on. They serve a wonderful

breakfast buffet in the AM for your guests and great fresh fruit juices

for you after your surgery. (Try the Apple Juice-YUM!!) It was very close

to the freeway entrance ramps. Call them and make sure they are done

renovating. If so I would recommend you stay there. They have

refrigerators/freezers and microwaves in the rooms and they have a

discount rate for surgery patients $49.00 per night. Their number is

(919)471-6100

1816 Hillandale Road, Durham, NC. I elected to stay for 1 week after my

surgery and if you can I strongly recommend you do this. Just in case you

should have a leak Dr. R could fix it laproscopically easily. I made my

return flight for December 9th but I was doing so well I came home the

following Thursday December 7th early.

I have had no complications. My biggest problem is remembering to eat.

No kidding. It's as if i have had a brain transplant. I no longer crave

sweets or food. My tastebuds are different too. I cannot tolerate sweet

things. Kristi I am so happy!!! Just imagine feeling the pounds melting

away and really not having to work at it!! I really don't feel like I

have had to sacrifice anything. I just came home from a Xmas party and I

don't have to tell you their was all kinds of food. It didn't bother

me...in fact it was the opposite it was making me nauseous to see it all.

You will not be sorry. When you think about it it makes perfect sense.

Your stomach is now a feeding tube and a lot of the pleasure from eating

is gone but not missed!!!

I haven't told everyone. Just the people I trust most. No need to!!! But

I do smile a lot more now. I feel great and yes, I would do it again. I

wish I would have done it 15 years ago.

I am 45 years old and was beginning to experience arthritic pain in my

knees and hips, diabetes and high blood pressure. All that getting older

crap we all have to deal with. 2 days after my surgery all my arthritic

pain was gone. I was walking better and Dr. R immediately took me off my

blood pressure meds and glucotrol med for my diabetes. I don't need them

anymore.

I have pretty much tried to stay on liquids for the first 2 weeks. I love

the Dole frozen fruit pops, orange juice (I water it down a little so it

isn't so sweet), apple juice(something I didn't like before my surgery?).

Now I have started eating yogurt everyday. This is good for your healing

stomach and mashed potatoes also agree with me. The best soups I have

found are the chicken noodle ones in the package like Lipton or Mrs.

Grass's. Saltine crackers also are a good source of sodium in the

beginning.

I know this all sounds a little over the top but it's all true! This has

been the best thing I have ever done in my life. For the first time I

feel I have the control and I do not feel deprived.

Let's keep in touch. If I can help you with anything else let me know.

I'll keep you posted as to my progress. See you on the otherside.

Peace,
