Guest guest
I posted to the list some questions last night, but can't find my post anywhere, so maybe I did something wrong. I went back and reread the guidelines. I think I stayed within the posting guidelines, unless the moderator felt my message was too long. Anyway. I am the father of a 4.5 year old ASD child (Caeden). Progressed well to 1 year. Had fluid on ear but no noticeable infection. Doctor prescribed antibiotics anyway and gave vaccinations same day. Soon after, allergic reaction to antibiotics, followed immediately by Chicken Pox from vaccination. Then, immediately after that, severe flu and fever. All language and interaction stopped. No more laughing or smiling. No more chewing his food. So, 1.5 years ago, we started on a primarily natural/organic diet. Grassfed/pastured meat. Cage free organic eggs. Raw Milk from grassfed/pastured cows. We've seen improvement, but nothing like I've seen described by those on the SCDiet. We have some simple language, and he now interacts with people far more than he did. But, language is still minimal and interaction is more like a 2.5-3 year old than a 4.5 year old. Looking to SCD as a possible solution, but have a few questions. My wife is looking to get Elaine's book from the library as budget is tight enough already. Had a couple of quick questions (I managed to answer some of my questions from last night by reading a WHOLE LOT today). 1) Once a person/family moves past the Intro portion of the diet, how long does it typically take to move through the other stages? I know it will be somewhat different for everyone, but does anyone have a rough guideline? I'm trying to prepare my family for what's in store, so we're all on the same page (we're all going to do it - not just Caeden). 2) We've been on raw milk for over a year now. Stools are semi-loose most of the time, but not runny. Don't know if this is a sign of trouble with digestion of the milk or not. We're going to take a 2 week break from the milk, as I read somewhere it takes about 10 days to completely eliminate casien from the system. After that break, I'm planning on doing the 24 hour yogurt. However, I'm curious about something. I have always done homemade yogurt (8 hour fermentation) without heating the milk above 110 degrees F. Have had good results, and I like that I'm not ruining any of the nutritional value of the RAW milk. But, I see in the description of the 24 hour yogurt process, it is heated considerably. I am having a hard time convincing myself that this is a good idea considering the benefits of keeping it raw. Is there someone who can explain the wisdom of this practice since they refer to the " realmilk " website for sources of good milk? Is this done just in case folks are using pasteurized milk in order to kill any potential pathogenic bacteria before fermentation? 3) Is apple juice ok instead of apple cider if the only ingredient is " apple juice " and it's not from concentrate? 4) Are spices a big deal in the Intro portion of the diet? If my family is going to be limited to chicken, beef or eggs, I'm going to have to season it some to get them to eat anything. 5) If there are those in the family too picky to eat the restricted diet in the beginning, is there any reason not to just allow them to " fast " until they decide to " participate " . Seems like it would serve the same purpose of starving the problem bacteria in the gut. Sorry, this was so long. Future posts won't be nearly so, I'm sure. I try to learn all I can from reading before posting, but I didn't see any straight-forward answers to these questions anywhere - maybe I'm searching improperly, but I'm pretty much a " seasoned vet " when it comes to internet research (even though I'm a newbie to online groups such as this one). With much thanks for any assistance, Mike Kaufman Father of 4.5 year old Caeden (ASD since 1 year) Just starting SCD We're planning on doing the yogurt after a couple
Guest guest
Hi Mike Your story sounds like mine. My kids were diagnosed July 1 2007 with ASD. I knew something was going on So after many doctors visits and years went by, I finally got then Diagnosed with ASD. I have been on the diet for 13 days. Before that we were on strict gluten free diet, and we just stopped milk too. So 3 days into this diet my 5 year old daughter walked up to me and ( I am so happy ) That was the first time I heard that out of her mouth. The same week My son said ( I eat ) and ( I drink) That was a first. He is 3 1/2. Now my kids ask for food, 14 days ago they were screening and crying for anything they wanted, that is how they communicated. Our son was smashing his head on the floor or on doors, he has since stopped that. Kaden also says mom now. I have also noticed a big difference in our 6 year old. He really talks to me now. Its just great he looks right into my eyes. He is also alot less emotional. As for myself I feel better than I have ever felt. My husband is also feeling excellent. We were eating gluten free we are celiac and we also eat all organic. I thought we ate very healthy, no junk food, no sugar of any kind. We are doing the SCD without dairy for now. I think that is what made Kaden bang his head. I really did not know what to expect from this diet, but I thought I had nothing to loose. I am very happy I did. My kids are much happier and so am I . My two kids say new words everyday. 13 days SCD 2 kids 3 and 5 ASD and 1 - 6 year old maybe asperser's syndrome Tara www.wildcharmbengals.com www.kentaraexcavating.com Newbie Questions >I posted to the list some questions last night, but can't find my > post anywhere, so maybe I did something wrong.
