Guest guest
Well, I think we made it past the intro diet, yay! After giving my daughter only chicken, eggs, soup and very diluted scd legal juice I think we are past the worst. I will just say that I am wondering what you all do with your children who are unable to tolerate the proteins in the beginning and wondering how long that has lasted. This post may be kind of long, but if you have the experience and the time to read on, or just share on what I have said in short...any feedback is appreciated! After the tantrums, nightmares and lack of sleep-not to mention the irritabillity and impossibleness, I began adding food-after about 5 days of the intro diet. The tantrums and rigidity continued so I tried cutting out the fruits one at a time. It didn't help, so I cut the eggs, after preparing them several different ways...didn't help either. So, I cut out the chicken and meat and by golly, she improved by leaps and bounds. On a side note, she had a protein sensitivity stool test and it came back negative, (although she wasn't eating much protein at the time, wonder if I should retest?). SO then I added squash...and lots of it. She eats around 1 large butternut squash a day, as well as well steamed and deseeded zucchini (2 medium sized ones), and steamed carrots (1 large), also 10 green beans. I am worried about the lack of protein and when to try it again...She just seems so much better without it. A little background on Ella...She is 3 years old now. When she was around 6 months old she began having very hard infrequent stools and extreme fussiness. At 9 months I saw a naturopathic doctor who suggested stopping most all food, nursing her and cutting out soy, nuts, wheat, dairy and sugar from my diet. I did this until 2.5, at which point I began feeding her more and weaning. By 2 years 7 months we had stopped nursing and things got really bad. I had her tested for celiac (negative, but she has only had gluten in the form of spelt, and not for 1-2 months before testing). Her colonoscopy came back normal. I guess that is good and bad, in that her autistic spectrum like behavior, sleep trouble and constipation continued. SO I decided to try the scd diet, and I will say things have improved a great deal..I am just in a Quandry over how much of what she is needing and it is all very " perplexing " , as HElen says in her book. Sorry about the novel here...hope someone might be able to share! Susie Hansen mdsuzetta@...
Guest guest
Hi, Susie, Your dd is getting protein when you give her eggs. Would you be willing to try a legal cheese? Cheese has protein. How about starting yogurt? It also has protein. Nuts have protein, but it's probably too early for nut butter. There are many kinds of meat and fish. Would you want to try wild-caught salmon? Some people find they can only eat somewhat exotic meats like ostrich. List member Donohue said this in Aug. '06: Many sensative kids don't react to game meats simply because they have not had them. Ostrich, emu, elk, rabbit, cornish hen, quail etc. www.eatwild.com has lots but everything I've just mentioned I have seen at Whole Foods one time or another. Hope I've given you some ideas. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
