Guest guest
Hi, We are getting geared up to start the diet this weekend. My son just turned 5, has been GF/CF for 2.5 years and we're ready to try SCD. I am wondering if there are parents out there who's children did not show any outward signs of intestinal problems, but benefited from the SCD. My son's stools are in great shape (so to speak , and he's never had a problem with gas, constipation, or diahrea. A stool test revealed high levels of sugars and fats, and low water (although he only drinks water and he drinks it all day). I know we need to just try it ourselves, but I'd love to hear about other experiences, especially children who have responded well. Thank you! Guest guest
Hi - I have two boys on the autism spectrum and we have been doing SCD since June this year. We had done GF/CF in the past and they had responded with very positive gains and improvements with it but then leveled off and eventually even regressed in behaviors some. Neither of my boys has ever had overt intestinal problems, no stomach symptomology or diahrrea problems. If anything they probably leaned more to occasional constipation but not enough to be a large concern. Anyway, since starting SCD with them in June my oldest son has had downright dramatic behavioral improvements, and he will even tell you himself he feels so much better eating this way. My younger, more severely affected son, has also shown some improvements although not nearly as dramatic as his brother. We are still pretty new to this, so there may be others who can offer more, but maybe this helps some?? Best of luck! Guest guest
Thank you for responding Sheri. This is exactly what I need to know (from a mom who is/has been there). Would you mind elaborating on this comment, " My younger, more severely affected son, has also shown some improvements although not nearly as dramatic as his brother. " What kind of improvements have you seen? Did you do the intro diet? What type of behaviors did your older son have before the diet? I really appreciated you sharing your experience! > > Hi - > I have two boys on the autism spectrum and we have been doing SCD since June > this year. Guest guest
Hi , At the beginning I never suspected my daughter got problem either. Her size is over average (97 percentile), chubby, active, look healthy, but her stools are bulky (I thought it was because she ate a lot) but have a lot of undigested veges. She never had diarrhea nor constipation but has distended tummy. I tried to find the cure for her autism and found Ellaine's website. Since, I started doing SCD before I even knew she had celiac! Her blood test came two weeks ago, showing positive (eventhough bowel biopsy is still the gold standard to confirm this). I think there must be something wrong with the gut in every kid with this spectrum. If you want to make sure , just get the test done. The diet definetely help my daughter eventhough we do it back & forth as my husband didn't really support me (keep on introducing illegal food or supplement or given her excessive honey) which is so frustrating for me but yes, I will never look back and will keep on doing this diet! Hope this help. Leena Mum of Clarice Belle, Severe ASD (non verbal) & global delayed. SCD Jun 07 > > Hi, > > We are getting geared up to start the diet this weekend.
