Guest guest
Nick (or is it the yeast talking?) keeps asking for French fries, noodles, circle pretzels, tortilla chips, etc. The two most uniqe requests have been a " candy cane " and a " chocolate treat. " In the past 3 days, I have never been so creative in the kitchen. I made popsicles, meatballs, jello with cooked fruit, frozen jeelo cubes, a chicken, little carrot and egg muffins, hard-boiled eggs, banana " pancakes, " zucchini French Fries (egg white brushed on them and baked, bland stir-fry) and a bunch of losers like chicken and spinach " tots " that he wouldn't eat. (my applesauce popsicles were rejected by 4 kids simultaneously! lol) My kitchen is more like a laboratory. I feel like all I do is wash dishes. He woke up at 4:00 A.M. last night asking for pretzels. Tonight I had him in the ER because his eyes were all swollen. Here, he got cinnamon under his nails when he was helping me cook today and then rubbed it in his eyes. (He is fine.) God bless all of you. This is hard. Any snack ideas would be appreciated. I am determined, but I feel like I am going nuts. He is sick of this food, but he will get over it. UUUUUUUGH! Thanks for reading.
Guest guest
Hey, MrsStanko, Don't burn yourself out (LOL)! It does get better over time. Any chance of help in the dishwashing department? I think most of us find we cannot survive being " short-order cooks " . When the yeastie- beastie speaks, just repeat, " We have jello, boiled eggs, and applesauce. Which do you want? " Many kids (and adults) are very hungry in the beginning, so make up a bunch of a few things to keep in the fridge and offer those. At the beginning we relied on ripe bananas *a lot*. I had them in all stages of ripeness on the headboard of my bed! If the kiddos don't know why they can't have a pretzel, etc. and you think they are old enough to follow the explanation, have a look at the Files section of the list at the file called Explaining and Motivating. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/files/ That way you can say, " After more healing I may be able to make you an SCD pretzel, but for now, we can't have them " and they may understand a little better. Also in the Files is one called Newbie Recipe Index that may help you. And I highly recommend you join the group SCD Recipe Creators. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/scdrecipe_creators/ They have great ideas and a great files section and it doesn't matter if you feel you have anything original to contribute or not, although your zucchini fries would seem to qualify. :-) mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
