Guest guest
Perhaps another medical reason why the SCD works for many of us? HYPERLINK " http://www.ccfa.org/reuters/newecoli " http://www.ccfa.org/reuters/newecoli Novel Intestinal E. Coli Linked to Crohn's Disease NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Aug 21 -- A selective increase in a novel type of invasive Escherichia coli relative to depletion of Clostridial species appears to be involved in the etiology of Crohn's disease, according to a report in the July 12th issue of the ISME Journal: Multidisciplinary Journal of Microbial Ecology. In the study, Dr. W. Simpson, from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and colleagues used DNA analysis to compare the ileal microbial flora of patients with ileum-involved or colon-only Crohn's disease and of healthy subjects. Compared with the other groups, the ileum-involved Crohn's group showed an increase in E. coli species and decrease in Clostridiales. Moreover, the severity of the ileitis was directly related to the number of E. coli present. Lastly, only invasive species of E. coli were found in inflamed mucosa. Further analysis showed that the invasive E. coli exhibited novel phylogeny with characteristics similar to that of extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli and Enterobacteriaceae. " Our findings raise the possibility that a novel group of E. coli contains opportunistic pathogens that may be causally related to chronic intestinal inflammation in susceptible individuals, " Dr. Simpson said in a statement. " They suggest that an integrated approach that considers an individual's mucosa-associated flora in addition to disease phenotype and genotype may improve outcome. Guest guest
Hi, I got the email also. Do you mean because of the yogurt, it eventually starves out the ecoli? How would you get tested and/or treated for this? I emailed ccfa to ask them also. Thanks for any info, a little technical for me Debbie 38 crohn's pentasa scd 1/07 > > Perhaps another medical reason why the SCD works for many of us? > > HYPERLINK > " http://www.ccfa.org/reuters/newecoli " http://www.ccfa.org/reuters/newecoli > > Novel Intestinal E. Guest guest
Hi JT, Thank you so much for this info. I am not surprised. Children with ASD have also been found to have very high levels of E Coli E. Coli are negative gram bacteria and therefore contain a toxin called LPS. LPS has been found to cause lots of intestinal damage for those with IBD. http://microbialinfluence.com/GI.html LPS causes brain and emotional damage to ASD children. http://microbialinfluence.com/Emotions.html http://microbialinfluence.com/Brain.html LPS can also bring many other diseases, it all depends where there is a vulnerability Mimi ============================================================ http://www.ccfa.org/reuters/newecoli " http://www.ccfa.org/reuters/newecoli Novel Intestinal E. Guest guest
Hi Debi, I hope that this will explain how SCD starves the E Coli. http://microbialinfluence.com/SCD.html The yogurt also helps. I will send articles about that later tonight if any one requests scientific articles about yogurt and LPS. Mimi > > >
Guest guest
Debbie, The short form of how I translate that is that the CCFA finally figured out what Dr. Haas knew around 60 years ago: an imbalance in our gut bugs is what can make us sick. Treat the imbalance of the gut bugs (like with SCD!) and the patient is likely to respond much, much better. Guest guest
Thank you for posting. I think this is wonderful that they are starting to get closer to understanding the causes of these inflammatory conditions. To me it seems a little strange to learn that they are just now thinking " hey - maybe we should figure out which baddie is causing what and then treat THAT! " I know that's not really how it is; they have suspected various things but need to utilize the scientific method which can only go so far on hunches.
