Guest guest
Yesterday my daughter drank approx 80 oz of the electrolyte drink...the one on the elaine website.. 2 Tablespoon Honey 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt (I use the " real salt " brand of sea salt) 1 Quart of boiling water I also added a small squeeze of lemon I stopped giving her the 1/8 scd legal juice, 7/8 water when it seemed the fruit, even in that was getting to her. She can eat no fruit at all without a reaction. I just let her drink as much as she wanted, as there seems to have been many times in the last few months where it is a struggle to get her to drink 10 oz. It is a wierd phenomena...when she is having a really bad day she will just refuse to drink. In fact, it is the only common denominator of all the symptoms she experiences...a total absence of thirst. TOday I cut the honey in half and added no lemon. But, she has had a pretty bad day, inflexible, sort of slurry speech and inability to gather herself or her thoughts, insistence of sameness, etc..return of the un-thirsty child as well. I am wondering if all the honey from yesterday's drinking might be getting to her. SHe has also pooped very little and there was tons of undigested food in her small, quite hard poo. Thanks to you all! nah Hansen mother to 3 yo undiagnosed Ella SCD since 8/2/
Guest guest
nah, Lack of thirst is called adipsia. It can be induced by a bacterial toxin called LPS. Melatonin can relieve it. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=103974\ 06&dopt=AbstractPlus Adipsia might also be caused by other factors. If you do not see improvements from SCD then seek the help of an SCD counselor. If you still see no improvements then seek medical help to rule out other factors. mimi > > >
