Guest guest
, I did mine before a psych eval was required. Sorry I don't know the answer. Tarri in Missouri MGB 09-29-00 329/269 Psych evaluation > I'm wondering... did most of you see a psychiatrist for the required evaluation? I didn't see where it was specified who is to do this baseline evaluation. Can a psychologist do it, or a family physician... or only a psychiatrist? The only psychiatrist in my immediate area works for the same multi-specialty clinic I work for. I'd rather not be evaluated by a coworker, so I may need to go out of town for this part. > > (KY) > > >
Guest guest
, Im having difficulty even finding one. I live in a very rural area....none here that can or will do it they seem a bit scared as to what the Dr might be looking for. Only 2 that i can think of say they dont have time after I explained to them what i wanted and they referred me to each other. DOES anyone live in the Fayetteville, Lumberton, Laurinburg, town, area that can refer me to a psychiatrist that has done this before.??? i think my best chances are in Fayetteville.. Kathy & , I was right on the line getting my packet in when this change was made, so I had asked many of the same questions you have. I was told that a " licensed " psychologist can perform the evaluation. In Ohio, this means that the psychologist must have a Ph.D. It may be different in your state, so check into it. I personally preferred this option as I feel psychologists are more " in tune " with doing evaluations, more readily accessible and available, and less likely to put you off because they won't make enough money off of you with just one visit. I hope this helps you. Peggy in Ohio 12/29/
Guest guest
Per Dr. Rutledge, a clinical psychologist (PhD) can perform the required assessment. You will probably have an easier time locating a psychologist than an MD. Good luck! Alice ----Original Message Follows---- From: Kathyuncp@... Guest guest
, you ask a great question. I, to, would like to know the answer. My physician gave me his evaluation and, as you said, there is no real guideline as to what would or would not be accepted. I'm working on finishing my packet here in the next week and I will be real upset to find out that I must go find someone(another doctor) to set up an appointment with to tell Dr. R. that I can handle this. I teach 27 5th graders, have two teenage children very active in sports, and have a husband that is a high school coach. Trust me, I can handle anything! HA! Don't get me wrong, I will do anything to get this stuff going. I just think that surely, our physicians can address this issue and since the guidelines don't say that it must be done by a certain doctor, this way will work. Good luck to you, . Maybe we will end up in the same litter. By the way, I'm a self payer. My Oklahoma State insurance will not even consider this surgery and state it very specifically in their manuel. Oh well. This surgery will give me my life back. It's worth a million dollars to me and I have some family members that are going to help! Families are great! Anyway, I will be reading along for awhile to see if anyone has info on the psyc stuff. Guest guest
Hello Oklahoma: What I did is copy the psy evaluation info off the internet, on Dr. R's web page to take to my psych. I go the27th of this month and will let you know how it worked out. Today because of the unacceptability of obesity, we all have some kind of hurdles to jump, but it is nice to share those hurdles and hopefully to help others so that their road may be easier... Guest guest
To update on this, I got an email answer from Dr. R stating the psychological evaluation must be performed by a psychiatrist or psychologist.
