Needing a vitamin similar to Empower Plus

Hi! We went to a DAN doctor the other day. He suggested Empower Plus.

That is however SCD illegal. I have spent hours and hours trying to

find a vitamin that is broad-spectrum enough to cover most nutritional

needs. Kirkmans Spectrum Complete seems to be the best, but has beta

glucan, a polysaccharide.

Has anyone had experience with Kirkman Spectrum Complete?

Anyone have any bad experience with Kirkman Spectrum Complete?

Anyone have any ideas about an SCD legal supplement that has LOADS of

vitamins, minerals and grape seed, coq10, choline, inositol, alpha

ketoglutaric acid and taurine...?

The Kirkman vitamins without beta glucan just don't cover all that we

need.

Thanks!

I'm curious why would you need inositol? This is what Sheila says

about inositol:

Inositol is a sugar alcohol and is illegal as a supplement. (a teeny

amount in a supplement is " okay " - but may cause bowel problems).

If he is taking a lot of this indigestible by human powder, it will

feed the bifidobacterium and any other nasties still in his gut.

To keep your supplements legal, you may have to break down the

components and take several different capsules to get everything you

need. And you may have to look at companies other than Kirkman for

some of the components.

There seems to be controversy over Empower plus regarding the safety

of their product.

Elaine suggested that vits and minerals be taken in balance and in

conservative amounts and that food be a better source. If unable to

have a varied diet and the onset of SCD the multis can help until

more foods are tolerated.

These are the legal SCD multi and SCD B complex:

Thanks for the help, you guys! I wasnt aware inositol was an

alcohol. I have read that it is helpful for proper fat digestion,

gene expression and serotonin modulation. Thats why I was interested

in it. Beta glucan seems really helpful in studies, but the fact that

its a polysaccharide scares me.

I have read the article on quackery watch, but I cant refute the fact

that empower plus is almost solely responsible for healing my sister

in law who was bed-ridden a year ago and now is about to start a part

time job. Further, the doctor we consulted who has DAN credentials

also recommended Emp plus. I think there is something in emp plus

that my husbands family is lacking... and it helped correct that

problem.

I agree whole-heartedly with Elaine about getting vits and mins

through food. Part of the reason why I asked this is because my

other sister in law is severely ill. She CANT eat. She tolerates

absolutely nothing. She gets her nutrition from hospital internal

liquid prescription stuff (a bag of nasty tasting liquid vitamins).

It doesnt cover all of the vitamins that are recommended for someone

with CFS and with severe celiac. Since her younger sister was almost

healed with Empower Plus, i was looking for something that would be

legal in SCD protocol but also packed with vits and minerals that she

seems to be lacking. I am looking for SCD legal things because if she

COULD eat, I think SCD could heal her. If she had known about SCD 3

years ago, before she became so extremely ill, I think her celiac

could have been managed and she wouldnt be ill today.

I will keep looking around. Thanks for the help!
