Guest guest
Hi. I am going camping to Yellowstone national park for 10 days. We are flying from NYC. I would really appreciate any pointers on how to handle the food situation. I am thinking I can take several kinds of nuts with me to serve as an emergency snack food if I get in a situation where I am not able to find what to eat. I am not sure if I am able to take the yogurt since it will spoil quite fast without refrigeration. I am hoping I will find some things in the local restaurants (steak, salad) but for the most of day I will be in the park and thus need to rely on myself for food. Any other foods out there that I can take with me or purchase there that are camping friendly? Does anyone know of any commercial sausages that I can buy that are SCD safe? Any advice is very appreciated. Thank you. Ilya

If you have a cooler that you can fill with ice you can keep some foods in that so you won't need to go to the store everyday. It will depend on the daytime temperatures of the park how long your ice will keep, We are just back from vacation and brought a cooler. DH bought a small propane stove top and a pot for cooking. It quickly cooked up some lunch while driving across the province with no place to stop for lunch. Canned legal seafood, salmon, sardines are good in a pinch. So are fruits if you are able to tolerate them. Sheila
Guest guest
Lara Bars are great for camping. I would also think that there are certain cheeses like cheddar that you could take with you. Also fresh fruits and veggies should keep as well. Guest guest
Hi , I agree with your statement: " that certain cheeses like cheddar that you could take with you. Also fresh fruits and veggies should keep as well. " Lara bars might be difficult to digest for many people Certain flavors are not legal, such as banana because we can not be sure that the bananas are ripe. Lara bars are controversial and might best be reserved for very advanced SCD folks. I wish that we could find a lab to test such foods.
