Guest guest
I'd like to start giving my daughter mayonaise but it has lemon in it which is allowed in stage 4 and she is in stage 2 at the moment, would the lemon content in mayo be mild enough to take in stage 2? She also likes to chew the chicken tendon (the white part covering the bone?)is it okay for her? Her tummy looks bloated most of times, she hardly chews the food and she eats a lot, I mean A LOT! She is 3 y 1mth but she can eat the same size of meal as me. I let her have the food until she doesn't want to take it anymore (I am still doing the feeding sometimes esp. if she is having soup or pureed food. Does anyone have a good tip on how to train her to chew her food. I have tried to show her in exaggerating way by moving my mouth and makes a chewing noise but to no success at all! Guest guest
Hi Leena, <<I'd like to start giving my daughter mayonaise but it has lemon in > it which is allowed in stage 4 and she is in stage 2 at the moment, > would the lemon content in mayo be mild enough to take in stage 2?>> The stages are meant only as a guide. You can try a small amount of the mayo and see how she does. If she doesn't do weel with lemon, you cab try white vinegar in the mayo instead. << She also likes to chew the chicken tendon (the white part covering > the bone?)is it okay for her?>> As long as it is cooked I don't see a reason why not. <<Her tummy looks bloated most of times, she hardly chews the food and she eats a lot, I mean A LOT! What foods is she eating and how are her bm's? When my kids refused to chew i'd cook foods until they were very soft. My MIL criticized the soft fruits and veggies saying I was cooking out all of the goodness, my reply was if the food passes right through they aren't get any of the " goodness " anyway. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, When her tummy is bloated but not hard, is it also caused by food intolerance? She has been eating : - ripe banana with drizzle of ground roasted almond (I bought organic almond nut butter (added sea salt) which is very buttery and tastes great but it was from the whole almond (skin on) so I stopped after two days and ground my own (roasted almond without skin in the food processor then crashed them using mortar & pestle. It doesn't look like a nut butter for me, it still looks like an almond flour but finer) - boiled pear, apple & pineapple, baked pear, diluted grape juice , diluted pineapple juice, almond milk (1 cup blanched almond to 1 litre water) - Baked pork, chicken, beef, mostly with garlic, steamed carrot, grean beans, sometimes steamed peppers, steamed turnip & swede (rutabaga), steamed zucchini (courgette), steamed spinach (the other day, I steamed the spinach just until it turned transparrant not dark & I tried to pureed them in food processor without chopping them first, end up stringy but soft, the next day I just chopped them & well cooked) - Carrot & zucchini curls (pan fried with olive oil). She loves this so much, she can eat the total of 3 small to medium carrots & 3 medium size zucchinis in one serving. - Skillet fried egg, sunny up, scrambled mixed with steamed veges Her BMs mostly very firm (constipated sometimes) sometimes got a little sticky mucus and always have undigested veges & white dots from almond in it, especially the carrot & zucchini curls, it came out the same as she ate them (she hasn't had the curls for 1 week now) Supplement: Carlson CLO (started early August) GI Prokids multivit, Prozyme, SCDophillus (started 28th Aug), Zinc liquid Sorry for the very long post Sheila, hope you don't get dizzy reading them. Oops, I have to add that she stole raw apple and took a bite in the supermarkets (it happened a few times but no worries I paid for them afterwards ) and this morning she had one bite of wheat biscuits when my DH was having his breakfast and he forgot to put them back in the pantry. I ran her to the bathroom and squirt her mouth with water but I'm sure she took a little bit of it. If she has a setback with the wheat you can do the intro for a day or two to get things back to normal. Guest guest
The legal/illegal list on www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info says this about rutabaga: Also known as swede It is very fibrous, so go slow and be careful. And turnips, though allowed at first, were moved to the illegal category in 2002. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Thanks a lot for answering my questions. All fruit juice (incl pineapple are homemade), zucchinis are peeled but not seeded (suppose I have to do it from now on?) and I gave her a lot of steamed rutabaga (swede) as she likes it very much and low in phenols and not too high in salycilate. She was having bloated tummy before starting SCD. When we started the intro diet, her tummy was flat for a few days (that was the first time I saw her flat tummy) but after intro stage, most of times are bloated but soft (except when she had antibiotic) and eventhough I keep a food log, it is hard for me to tell which food caused it because from what I read, some people have quick reaction and some could take a week or more to react and I can't really tell. I guess she also have salicylates & phenol problems. Symptoms: can't sleep at night (sometimes at 1 or 2 am.. morning), stimming more, laughing without reason, dark circles under eye, hitting her own head (prob from headaches). But I think I worked this one out for the saly & phenol. She fell asleep at 9pm today (thank goodness.. most days she sleeps at around 10 - 11pm). For the last two days, I gave her saly & phenol foods and supplements in the morning (with 1/4 capsule of prozyme with each meal during the day) and non saly & phenol food at night time. Prozyme got cellulase 500 CU Sheila, from your answer, I guess I have to reduce the turnip & rutabaga & the use of oil (plus the fat from the meat). Actually I have just introduced steamed cabbage (no phenol & saly) and heard a little fart .. once.. Since starting SCD, she sleeps better (prior to SCD, she would wake up average from 3am to 6 am almost everyday and my husband used to take her in the car until she fell asleep from baby to 2 yo, after 2 yo, driving around in the car didn't seem to work anymore). 1 day doing intro diet, she responsed when I called her name (prior to that, she never bother even to look, I thought she was having selective hearing problem because she responsed to the sound of blues clues on TV). What made me convinced to stick to the diet, on that same day, it seems like her brain was unblocked that she could understand and did it when I asked her to put the clothes back into the basket after she threw it out (I was just simply asking without hoping there would be any reaction at all.. woowww , it was a miracle for me) and she put on shoes her self for the very first time, complete with velcro on and on the correct sides!!! I have watched Elaine's video and think I will be the retarded one if I don't keep doing this diet after seeing such a miracle (after ONE day being on the diet) and I don't think it is a coincidence. At kindy, her teacher aid said to me that she has made progress and is a happy little girl. Guest guest
HI, Leena! Dede here! I don't want to muddy the water so to speak, but I have a known allergy to pineapple (causes headaches that put my migraines to shame!! Seriously - 1 small fresh cube of pineapple laid me out for 12 hours! Not even vicodin touched it. I've learned since then that a lot of people are allergic to pineapple, right up there with strawberries. As a child I did not like pineapple juice at all, but I do like fresh pineapple. This allergy appeared about 13 years ago. I was already a label reader any way, so then I started looking for pineapple being used as a sweetener ... and also bromelein (used as a digestive aid). Problems can certainly come from unexpected sources, huh? Guest guest
Hi Leena, << zucchinis are peeled > but not seeded (suppose I have to do it from now on?)>> Deseed zucchini if they have large seeds. Small zucchini (~10 inches or less) with immature seeds are okay as they are. > Sheila, from your answer, I guess I have to reduce the turnip & > rutabaga & the use of oil (plus the fat from the meat). Actually I > have just introduced steamed cabbage (no phenol & saly) and heard a > little fart .. once.. I reduce the turnip first and see if that helps, if not then remove reduce the rutabaga. If still no change then try reducing fat to see if it helps. But if she isn't having diarrhea or loose, soft stool the fats are likely okay. <<What made me convinced to stick to the diet, on > that same day, it seems like her brain was unblocked that she could > understand and did it when I asked her to put the clothes back into > the basket after she threw it out (I was just simply asking without > hoping there would be any reaction at all.. woowww , it was a > miracle for me) and she put on shoes her self for the very first > time, complete with velcro on and on the correct sides!!! >>...At kindy, her teacher aid said to me that she has made progress and > is a happy little girl.>> Great progress : ) Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
Hi Dede, I hope she hasn't got the allergy to pineapple, she loves it so much. I'm pretty sure she has salicylates & phenol problem and pineapple is high in phenol & very high in salicylates. I was going to order Phenol assist from Kirkman but stucked in the shipping part as 'no shipping method available' to New Zealand and they haven't reply to my email either. > > > > > > Hi Leena, > > > > > > <<When her tummy is bloated but not hard, is it also caused by > > food > > > > intolerance? >> > > > > > > It may be a food she isn't ready for or something else. > > > > > > <<She has been eating : > > > > > > > > - ripe banana with drizzle of ground roasted almond (I bought > > > > organic almond nut butter (added sea salt) which is very > buttery > > > and > tastes great but it was from the whole almond (skin on) so > I > > > stopped > after two days and ground my own (roasted almond > without > > > skin in the > food processor then crashed them using mortar & > > > pestle.
