Guest guest
I am wondering what others in this group tell normal kids when they ask " Why can't he talk " or " Why does he do that " about your autistic child. Coming up with something age appropriate to tell a 4 or 6 year old has been difficult for me. My son is verbal with 2/3 word sentences, but is easily aggitated when other kids just try to show him something with a toy he is playing with and has the classic trait of appearing deaf. :>) Thanks in advance!! Guest guest
I just keep it very simple and say " he doesnt talk very much " All the kids I have spoken too seem to accept that, and if they dont and say " Why? " I say " because he likes it that way, thats just the way he is " and give them a big smile! I do sometimes intervene and get him to reply to the kids directly so he doesn't appear to ignore them also (we do ABA) Hth Sophie x > > I am wondering what others in this group tell normal kids when they > ask " Why can't he talk " or " Why does he do that " about your autistic > child.
