Guest guest
Aloha! I am uncertain that these products would be SCD legal as they are " Polyethelenes " which I beleive to be a fairly hazardous substance for anyone to be ingesting. After our pediatrician prescribed this for our extremely constipated 10 year old I did a little research. Many medical sites did not recommend use in children unless the pediatrician was very experienced in monitering children placed on this type of product. It may be effective - but perhaps not the best long term solution. We have been trying to find a balance for our daughter for the best part of 10 years - she has been plagued with constipation from 4 months - the SCDiet looks like it may help regulate her, although we are hesistant to get too excited as we have been disappointed so many times. We have been crossing over from GF/CF to SCD for the last 2 months and have been full SCD for 2 weeks now. I gave away the last of all the baking mixes etc.. last week! My children and I are responding incredibly well to SCD. Through past experience etc.. I am guessing there will be good weeks and more challenging weeks. A food journal is a great tool to record what is ingested. The huge lesson I have learned through our journey is only change ONE thing at a time!!! This way you may more easily detect foods that cause the return of symptoms such as constipation etc..... Finding the perfect combination of SCD legal foods that suits your childs digestive process takes time and patience. Just because it is SCD legal may not mean your childs system is going to react positivley to it. My experience of reoccuring constipation is to look ever so carefully at the SCD legal foods being eaten and make ONE change at a time until the desired result occurs. Staying within the SCD legal food list is essential. Remember to keep a record of your changes! The smallest thing can make the biggest difference!! Guest guest
THanks for the insight...I was very weary when I actually read the insert to the medication. It is pretty unbelievable that doctors would prescribe such a thing to an under 3 year old! When I told the GI that she had been pooing daily and I had stopped the medication he said, " oh, that is how she got backed up in the first place. You really should keep her on it " . Amazing! Guest guest
My daughter was prescribed Miralax by our GI doc and she was only 18 months old. He didn't monitor her at all. Once we started this diet, we stopped the Miralax...we had no need for it and haven't since. We no longer see the GI doctor who, in my opinion, didn't know much about the GI tract. This diet has been so great for her. She's doing so much better. She never spoke until about 3-4 months ago and now I'd say she says at least 20 new words a day. She's now at age level. Just keep with it, it gets easier! Guest guest
Aloha Cheryl! It is quite amazing just how little some GI's know about digestion!!! I am so excited this diet has worked for the constipation end of things! It must also be an amazing experience to hear your little one talking! My son did not speak until 2years and I remember the great feeling of excitement we got to hear him talk! I had his ears checked at 1 year old as my first child started speaking at 10 months old! Thank you for you encouragement. My kids and I are all pushing ourselves along. Just as well we threw out all the illegal food!!!! Take Care Margit and 3 kids SCD 2.5 Weeks and counting!!!
