Guest guest
Dear SCD veterans. Has anyone out there with Crohn's disease had to use Remicade? My child is still having flare ups and we have been very careful with food. She had prednisone in July which I was told has sorbitol in it. Then after a month off of prednisone is having a flare again and her doctor is considering Remicade. Would using Remicade be a problem for this SCD diet? We intend to stay on the diet because we believe it in. She is on Pentassa, folic acid and cod liver oil. SCD since Feb.-07. - Also, why would getting prednisone made with dextrose and frutose be better then sorbitol? - Should I be adding acidophilus to her yogurt to boost the healing? Guest guest
Hi eacgetwell, <<Dear SCD veterans. Has anyone out there with Crohn's disease had to > use Remicade? My child is still having flare ups and we have been very > careful with food.>> What foods is she eating and how are they prepared? What happens with her flares? Did she have good bm's while on the steroids? What was the frequency? What is the frequency now? Any bleeding? Diarrhea, constipation etc..? << She had prednisone in July which I was told has > sorbitol in it. Then after a month off of prednisone is having a flare > again and her doctor is considering Remicade. Would using Remicade be > a problem for this SCD diet?>> Some do use Remicade. You may get more feedback on it from the Long Island SCD list (more people with crohn's on that list). Regarding the Pentasa please see http://www.scdiet.org/4faq/asacol.html When did she start the Pentasa? Any chance she is now having a bad reaction to it. << We intend to stay on the diet because we > believe it in. She is on Pentassa, folic acid and cod liver oil. SCD since Feb.-07. - Also, why would getting prednisone made with dextrose and frutose be better then sorbitol?>> Sorbitol is indigestible by humans and may feed nasty microbes. The dextrose or fructose should not feed microbes, but be readily digested by the body. Re: the prednisone she took: was it in the liquid form? <<-Should I be adding acidophilus to her yogurt to boost the healing?>> Some people do find that adding the acidophilus to yogurt (after fermentation) beneficial. Which yogurt starter are you using? Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
Dear Sheila and Group: Thank you for your response. She eats only SCD approved foods and lately we has gone back to soft mild foods almost like the beginning foods, -eggs, cheese, bananas, baked chicken. When she flares she has mild to moderte pain after meals and still just one bm a day. When this first started she had two loose BMs following a cold with one day of light bleeding. I will also look in the Long Island SCD list, do I just go online to find it? She started the Pentasa right after her diagnosis in December o6. The prednisone was in a small tablet form. For yogurt starter I use Dannon All Natural Plain yogurt. I appreciate your help. EACgetwell have a child with Crohns SCD since Feb. 07 > > Hi eacgetwell, > > <<Dear SCD veterans.
