Guest guest
Hi, I'm hoping SCD veterans can help me with this issue. But first, I wanted to give an update of my son on SCD. We've only been SCD for 2mths and this last month has brought I N C R E D I B L E verbal gains. Dillon was basically non-verbal when we started the diet. Now he will repeat almost anything you ask him to. He's not conversational but at least he is talking!!! My entire family and the school are shocked by his sudden progress. Ok, now for our current problem...we were having nice BMs regularly and still really stage 1. He was getting only bananas for fruit and NO honey at all for at least the past 1.5 mths. I added avocado and the squash from stage 2 and everything was ok as long as it stayed in small amounts. I then used the PB cookie and cake recipe from this site and used blanched almond butter in place of PB. I also cut the honey in the recipe but he was getting some honey. He started having dark circles come back under his eyes almost immediately after those 'desserts' were added. Then we got some stimmy behavior so I thought it was yeast and pulled out honey. I made more of that recipe into muffins and omitted the honey. They were actually really good with only banana as the sweetener-I was shocked. Dillon loved them. Well, with honey out we are still having some odd behaviors and the dark circles remain. The speech isn't as spontaneous as it had become but he is still talking. They are wide dark circles too so something isn't right. Now I'm wondering if this is an intolerance to almonds or is it too soon to be giving him the almond butter?? Also, in the evenings over the past 2 days he's had loose BM 30 min after eating the honey and/or honey-free muffins. Would an SCD veteran consider this yeast and advise to redo the intro diet?? Does this sound like it could be an intolerance to almond/almond butter?? Or does it sound like almonds are probably fine it's just too soon to be giving them because not enough healing has taken place?? He is not able to take any supplements other than acidophilus and sac b due to loose stools so I know he is still in a delicate state. Any advice or experience shared with me would be MOST appreciated. I'm really sad about the possibility I may have to pull the muffins because he has such few treats and is sooooo tired of the same small list of foods. Again, thank you for any help, Pam, mom to Dillon ASD 4yrs old SCD June 23, 2007
Guest guest
Congratulations on the progress, Pam! Try the muffins with pecan butter and see if that helps. If not, hold off on nut butters for a while. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi , where would I buy pecan butter?? It is not listed on Digestive Wellness. Thanks so much for the response. So I take from your response this sounds more like intolerance than yeast so maybe I don't have to retro diet?? Pam > > Congratulations on the progress, Pam! Guest guest
I don't think anyone sells pecan butter. It is very drippy and I personally think it tastes bad plain. But it makes fantastic baked goods; I think they almost taste like chocolate. Many kids tolerate pecan butter much better than almond--hence the name pecanbread! Symptoms can be confusing. I'm not sure it's not yeast, but I just think that if I were you I would rather try checking the almond butter first before assuming it's yeast. Also, there is a common occurence we call the " 3 month flare " which is an additional round of die-off at approx. the 3-month mark. Epsom salt baths and activated charcoal can help with this. You also might find it helpful to go back to the intro for a couple of days. Sorry I don't know for sure what it is, but you have a couple of possibilities here besides yeast. mom to -12 SCd 4/23/04 > > > > Congratulations on the progress, Pam!
