Guest guest
Hi, I've been away for while, but still trying to keep on with some semblance of the diet. My wife had issues with the diet and insisted we add some foods off-plan, but I've tried to keep the diet as simple as possible, and recently we started over with a very low sugar diet designed to attack the yeast. 11 days ago, we did an intro diet for two days, and then went back to a beginner/itermediate diet without apple sauce and orange juice. He's been almost fruit-free since then, and has gotten nearly all his carbs from carrots and green beans. About 8 days ago, he started getting some pretty stinky diarrhea, and he's been on and off with the diarrhea since then. 5 days ago I restarted with a pretty strict intro diet, and have only added green beans since then. The diarrhea seems to be getting worse, but in many ways, his behavior and brain function seem to be improving. Is this what a yeast die-off might look like? Any other ideas? Current Foods ----------- Fried eggs w/olive & coconut oil Electrolyte with small amount of legal cherry juice Hamburger Hardboild Eggs with homemade mayo Baked chicken Pressure-cooked carrots (for 90 minutes) Green beans S. Boulardii Candizyme (anti-yeast enzyme) SCDophilus Legal vitamins and minerals Thanks, Wayne Charlie's dad, ASD, high tartaric acid (yeast probably) Nut diet, 8 months; SCD 5 days (or maybe it's still the nut diet). Guest guest
Re: What's a yeast die-off look like? Thanks for responding Sheila, and any information or guidance is greatly appreciated. I think I may finally be making some progress, but my wife is very concerned that the diet is hurting him. An extract of the message is below with my answers. Thank you again, Wayne (Charlie's dad, ASD w/yeast, nut diet 8 months, SCD 6 days) Wayne first said: " 5 days ago I restarted with a pretty strict intro diet, and have only added green beans since then. The diarrhea seems to be getting worse, but in many ways, his behavior and brain function seem to be improving. " Sheila asked, " How long did you stay on the intro? How were his bm's during that time? When you began the green beans did you see any change in bm's? " Wayne answered: 3 days on the intro. The bm's were back and forth between mushy and soft, roughly once or twice a day, not at any particular time, and usually quite orange (we were eating lots of carrots). said he had a nice firm poop on day 3 of the intro. When we added green beans the diarrhea started in earnest (5 times yesterday), and one of the times had a large amount of mostly odorless and colorless water. He's had one watery bm today and one quite mushy one. My wife changed both diapers, but she indicated that they were more orange than green. That makes my untrained mind think it's not a problem with the green beans. He's been kind of grumpy today and more contrary than usual, but he's not been completely miserable. Wayne first asked: " Is this what a yeast die-off might look like? Any other ideas? " Sheila answered: " It may be die off. Boulardii just before bedtime (9:30pm)
Guest guest
Thank you for the feedback . It helps tremendously to know what others have experienced. Guest guest
Thank you for the advice, Sheila. After I wrote yesterday's message, I realized how dumb it sounded, so I didn't give him any green beans, today. I gave him a bit of zucchini today instead. That seems to be working better from a poop perspective. You suggested to leave the green beans out " a good long while " . I'm guessing that means a month or more. I'm at a loss for what new foods to introduce. He's got a good variety of meats, so that's a dead end. I'm kind of afraid of the vegetables now, spinach because of the oxylates, and everything else because it's up a level. I'd like to give it another week before I add fruit. I guess I'll try goat yogurt, then maybe mushrooms. Thank you again for all your help Sheila. I wish I were smarter, so I wouldn't have to trouble you so much. Guest guest
I find that if I peal carrots and then boil them for 4 hours and then blend them, that I tolerate them a lot better. I also boil green beans for 30-40 minutes and then blend them. My husband has issues with zucchini because of the salicylates/fenols, so you might want to be careful with them. I find that I digest zucchini better if I blend them too. So, basically, try to introduce some vegetables like carrots, asparagus (really boiled and blended), and if you havent been blending them, you might want to try the green beans blended. Those have done the best for us so far. If the blended veggies are unappealing to your child, then you can disguise them as a sauce for the meats/fish, etc. - I'm at a loss for what new foods to introduce. Guest guest
Thanks . He doesn't go for the vegetable sauces well, but I guess I could do soup. It's starting to cool off so that's a little less crazy now. Sheila suggested I pass on the green beans, so I think I'll lay off on them for a while, but very cooked and pureed asparagus or zucchini might work in some chicken stock. OJ helps oxalates pass out through urine. http://cjasn.asnjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/CJN.00800306v1 http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/50980.php Cooked peeled zucchini or (deseeded) cucumber are good choices, you can steam or cook them and mash or put in burgers, meatloaf etc.. (you'll want to press out water.) Cooked winter sqaush: hubbard, acorn, buttercup, butternut etc.. I sometimes steam lettuce and saute it with olive oil and a little garlic. You could probably try some steamed/boiled asparagus tips. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
