Lynda, I have a suggestion for helping your mother. I felt the same way

about sharing with my mom and I am 53. I gave her not only the manual

but also a copy of the insurance letter from Dr. R. I felt that it

would help her understand that I was making a competent decision. After

reading that letter she was my best cheerleader. Good luck!

Great Idea Beverly,

Thanks for suggesting it, I will share that with her. I think she will get

more comfortable with the idea after she thinks about it and gets to look

over the manual..... She worries a great deal about my health, and knows I

have to loose the weight. It just never occurred to her that I might need

to resort to something that to her is so drastic.

Lynda;

If you think of your patient letter as your mother asking 10 questions

about the surgery and then answer them as thoroughly as you can you will:

1. have you patient letter completed

2. Have something that will help your mother understand

That's a good Idea Beverly get them involved... My parents are dead, but I

have good friends who are like family and that is what I am doing... I am

advising them to do research and giving them all the info that was given to

me... Good thinking!

Another thing I am doing is taking the letter from Dr. Rutledge on his

statistics and sharing it with everyone including the insurance company...

How can they not be impressed..

Jerry,

Please answer me this, what spacing?? can we double space?

I really, really need this answered!!! The manual does not address

spacing, unless I missed something!!

Thanks,

You can double space, but do not make the font too

large - Dr. R is no dummy and he will send it right

back to you. I used a 12-font and double spaced. I

wrote of personal experiences just like I was sitting

and talking to a friend. I was terrified of this

letter and put it off to the very end. But once I got

started it just flowed out of me. I had no trouble

getting 11 pages together.

Good luck

Hey

You've been reading all these great experiences. I think Jerry is in the

wrong field of work... He is a truck driver, but should be a medical

interpreter... Don't you think... He does such a good job in explaining

things. Hey we are getting closer and closer... I am excited.. Aren't

you..

Thank you Margaret. I was just getting ready to ask the spacing question.

However, you answered it before I got the chance. I am working on my

letter. I am not a writer so I know it is going to be hard, BUT it will be

well worth it!

Thanks again,

Dedee
