Guest guest
HI - Just to refresh who I am. I had the whipple surgery 11/24/05 at the IU Hospital in Indpls due to pancreas divisum causing chronic pancreatitis. All went well. Dr. Nakeeb took out 25% of my panc and the other typical organs with this surgery. I did get a fistula and had an extra month of recovery from this terrible wound. Well, the fistula caused my muscles to not heal together and I basically had a BIG hernia down the middle of my abdomen. I had what I thought was going to be " minor " hernia surgery on July 15th. Instead it was " total abdominal reconstruction " with a nine day hospital stay. I am home now and back to work, but still am in a lot of pain - I am sure I shouldn't be back to work yet, but need to be... no sick days left. I am getting better each week, but it certainly was MAJOR surgery with MAJOR recovery - almost as much as my whipple. He had to put in a piece of gortex web permanently right down the middle of my abdomen that I think is about 2 " x 6 " . The muscles were pulled TIGHT over it and reconnected. Do you realize HOW much we use our abdominal muscles?!?!?!? I am still on 20 mg of oxycontin - down from, 60 mg and on 4 mg of dilaudid 6 x a day to twice a day, so I am slowly weaning off the pain drugs. I go back to Indy for my post-op on Monday August 1st. Thanks for all your care and support - I'm am now 8 months post-whipple and NO pancreatic attacks. HOORAY! Cecilia Mesa, AZ
