Guest guest
Hi Crystal !! I was just going to post and see if you got your results to see if you had celiac or not. And yes you do! I was diagnosed in March 2004 by Dr. Lehman in Indiana. I was there to have a sphincterotomy on my panc duct because of high pressures. He just happened to look alittle further into my small intestine and decided to take 6 biopsies. When I woke up he told me that he thought I might have celiac. I said that I had heard of it (from the medical boards), but that I never had a problem eating wheat products. It never made me sick or anything. Well, they also did the blood tests too, and sure enough I was positive on both tests (blood and biopsy). It sure has been a learning experience , with all the wheat-free/gluten- free foods etc. But I am used to it now. How have you been doing with the GF diet? If you ever want to email me about celiac (or anything else), please do! I know that Fliss and Suzi have it oo. I just feel bad for all the people in the US who are being told (for years) that they have IBS, when in actuality they have celiac. I look forward to hearing from you, and I hope you are feeling better. Take care Kris in TN ps. I also have osteoporosis from the celiac. Guest guest
The GF diet isn't bad now that I found a local store that sales the flours that I need to make things from scratch. They only problem is that my grocery has significantly increased. I feel better on the diet, and I didn't even think I felt bad when they placed me on it. I have cheated a couple of times. After having things with gluten I swell up and smell bad. My IgG and IgA came back positive. I haven't had a biopsy. I see the GI on Aug 3. Perhaps he'll want to do one to confirm the diagnosis, but I don't see the point if I feel better on the diet. Crystal Galloway
Guest guest
Crystal- I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease...like you I didn't really feel bad when diagnosed, but went on the diet to see if it would help. I also cheat on occasion, and I find I get bloated from eating what I shouldn't...but the pain from the pancreas is totally seperate kind of pain. The bloat has nothing on the pancreas pain, and vice versa. I buy the bread mixes and baking mixes, because it really hard to find some of the flours that recipes call for...things like garbonzo bean flour...hard to find AND expensive! I make myself extra servings of glutten free pancakes, pasta, cookies, etc...and I freeze the extra. I make the regular things with flour for my family...it saves lots of money if I am the only that eats glutten-FREE. There are some wonderful mixes out there...if you would like some names of what I use and like, please feel free to e-mail me and I would be happy to share! Also, check to see if there is a Celiac support group in your area. The one in my area meets at different restaurants to make them aware of celiac. Only wish there was a pancreas group that did that! Mix the two problems together and it severely limits what one can eat...anywhere! Like I said feel free to ask questions...I would be happy to try to help! Hugs, Suzi B. Guest guest
Thanks Suzi, The stuff is very expensive. Luckily for me I can save money using the flours that recipes call for because there is a local health food store that sales all of them. I guess celiac is pretty common in Utah. There is even a website with some good recipes at www.gfutah.org Love, Crystal
