Guest guest
Thanks for the kind words. I go see Dr. Lehman on Aug. 11th. And to top it all off,...my regular family physician would not give me any more oxycotin, only oxycodone. I had a script for Oxycotin 40mg. pills from Dr. Lehman and I ran out (from my last attack last saturday). All I wanted was for my family doc to write me the same script. But nooo, he decided that I didn't need to take the Oxycotin because it was strong and ONLY for someone who needs to be on it long-term. I only take it when the pain is NOT controlled with my other pain meds (demerol). So he gave me a script for Oxycodone APAP 10mg. First off, I don't want to be taking large doses of tylenol and second: the pills are large! And as you already know, that when an SOD attack hits, it hits hard and furious, and I can barely get a sip of water into me to take small tablets. When I got home I was just frustrated. I just hope that I don't have another SOD attack until I can see Dr. Lehman. He always prescribes me lots of pain meds to make sure I am comfortable and NOT suffering, and NOT having to take lots of pills at once. Oh, and I also told my family doc that Dr. Lehman told me to cut my 40mg oxycotin in half and take it and it will be fast-acting. I have been doing that for the last 1 1/2 years and it has been working good for me. Well my family doc said that that is wrong and that it is totally dangerous! I really don't think Dr. Lehman would put me in any kind of dangerous situation, and I totally trust his judgement over my family doc anyday. Well, now that I vented alot (sorry), I guess I feel alittle better. Thanks for listening. Take care Kris in TN

I'm sorry that you have been feeling so badly lately. I hate that. Itsgreat tho that Dr. Lehman could get you in so soon. Shoot thats only 2 weeks. I am wondering tho are you sure he said to cut the Oxycontin in half. Maybe he meant the oxycodone, which is the immediate release. The reason I ask is because the 'contin' in Oxycontin means that it is the continued release type of medication. MS Contin is the morphine type of one as well. They are never to be broken or crushed as it can cause the medication to go in way to rapidly and could lead to an overdose. If you are on the 40mg dose it is meant to administer 40mg of the medication every hour or so over a said period of time, usually its about 8-12 hours or so. Its the same way that the duragesic patch administers the medication over a said period of time. I would certainly never want to second guess Dr. Lehman but it would be horrible if something bad were to happen to you I was on the oxycontin for a while and used the oxycodone for breakthrough. I really dont like the oxy's at all but with everything that I have been through it was the only thing they want to write for. I stopped the contin and just take the codone now, well actually ran out today and haven't decided if I want anymore or not yet. Anyway, when you see Dr. Lehman just double check with him that he meant that. Breaking the contins can lead to a severe overdose. I hope you feel better soon and I wish there was something I could do to help you. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Warmly,
