Guest guest
Hi , I went to PT about a year ago for myofascial massage and getting the TENS unit. I tried it for about a half a year and I didn't think it did much for me, in fact in some ways it made the pain worse. I felt that it mimicked the spasming of the biliary / pancreas system too much so that my body / brain interpreted the electrical stimulation as biliary spasms or something (just my theory). I tried all the different settings and the different intensities and even when I used the continous stimulation at low, medium and high intensity I still thought that it felt like it was inducing abdominal spasms. But I really think it is worth a try as some people get relief from this. I thought that the myofascial massage was beneficial as well as the trigger point injections. According to my pain doctor (and I believe what she says - at least in my specific condition) there are so many components to pain from CP. There is the deep organ pain that is caused by who knows what...(speculation abounds on that one) and nerve entrapment pain from surgery and scar (also referred to as abdominal wall pain) and neuropathy from nerves being severed and crushed during surgery, to adhesions forming that push and tug and pull at organs, to muscle being damaged from the surgery and from the spasming that occurs naturally as the body tries to " protect " the pancreas from further injury (that is what the massage and trigger point injections try to address), and on and on. That is why the doctor and patient has to try many different things alone or in combination to see what works when and for how long. As far as I am concerned.......I am willing to try almost anything, short of swallowing some grotesque cup of " medicine " (I am thinking of that worm therapy that some doctors are prescribing for IBS - there is no way that I could ever, ever swallow intestinal worms - I don't care how much pain I am in!). Hope this helps....... Laurie
Guest guest
Hi Laurie: Good to hear from you and thanks for the info!! As an aside does anyone here try to respond to messages and the ad at the top of the page for $160,000 for mortgage loan or some such thing come up and it sort of shakes the page but continues to do so while typing the first line or so of a reply? I'm getting that and LOL! I don't think I'm imagining it!! It stops by about the 3rd or 4th line of typed text....very annoying!! At any rate, I'm willing to try anything at this point as well so will give the TENS unit a go for awhile and try and record the effects so I can get an accurate picture of whether or not it's helping the pain. Now, that worm thing that you mentioned? Haven't yet heard of that one....that is disgusting!! Is there a web site I can go to? Just out of some sort of morbid curiousity I guess...as I sure as he** wouldn't do it either...yuck!! Thanks for the info
