Guest guest
Hi group! I hope this e-mail finds you all well. I've been very frustrated with my pancreatitis. I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant (my 3rd pregnancy) and this time I've experienced more pain than with my previous pregnancies. Earlier this month I was put on bed rest due to some pre-term labor. While I was in the hospital I was given a medication to control my contractions it was Magnesium Sulfate. I was on the medication for 27 hours. During that time I started feeling abdominal pain along with nausea and vomiting. My OB doctor wanted to check my amylase and lipase and to my surprise they were elevated! Last week I was in the hospital again for contractions and was put on the Magnesium Sulfate again but only for about 12 hours. They checked my levels and they were normal but I still had pain. I was given Demerol and Phenergan and that seemed to help. I know medications can irritate the pancreas and I think the Magnesium Sulfate is one of them. I'm still getting flare up pain and I'm wondering if the medication they currently have me on (to control the contractions) is causing some problems. Anyway, there's not much they can do now since I'm 6 months pregnant....I have to wait to deliver. I'm scared to keep having to go to the hospital for contractions and being put on the Magnesium Sulfate again. I made an appt with my GI but won't be able to be seen until the 24th of next month. At least my OB doctor gave me some demerol to help with the pain. Anyway, sorry for venting! It's just been a hard pregnancy and my pancreas problem is not making things easier. Guest guest
Liana, I am sorry you are going through that, I have one child. My pregancy was spent on bed rest with a scheduled c section. It was extremely difficult to say the least. I went into early labor a lot, was in the hospital a lot and developed toxemia at the end. The whole thing was the most miserable experiance of my life. I wish I could tell you there was something out there that worked for me, nothing did. Of course that was 16 years ago and hopefully now something will help you. I am really sorry you are going through this-Kathleen " LIANA D. DIAZ " wrote:
Guest guest
Liana, Pregnancy is hard enough without having pancreatitis. I cannot imagine how hard that must be. My heart goes out to you. The baby will take what it needs and your poor body has to suffer through the rest! I have 2 kids and had rough pregnancies, I didn't know at the time I had cp and with my daughter I had some pretty bad attacks and they removed my gallbladder thinking that would help when she was 2 months old. My son was 2 years old at the time. Now that I look back on it, I was already seeing signs of cp but I didn't know what it was. But I cannot imagine how hard it must be for you! I pray it will get better and you won't have to get anymore of the mag sulfate. That stuff is awful as it is. Isn't that the stuff that makes you feel like fire is shooting out of your behind? It has been a long time but I think that is what it felt like. My kids are 10 and 12 now so I have forgotten so much of what it was like. I had toxemia and preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. How is your blood sugar doing with your pregnancy and cp? Hope you are feeling better!
