Guest guest
Hello everyone i am so sorry that i haven't written in a while. I'm living at home with my mom and we don't have an internet connection there. But I am moving into my new duplex soon which will have the internet and i will be able to talk more. It's been about 2months since my TP_ICT and i am doing pretty good. I was in the hospital for 18 days and everyone was great up there in Minn. They removed my pancreas, gallbladder, adn appendix they managed to save my spleen which was good. From my small very damaged pancreas they got 183, 000 islet cells Dr. Sutherland wanted 200,000 + but he was happy with what they got form my pancreas since it was so damaged. I really don't remember the first week at all which is kinda nice I'm sure i was in a lot of pain and i can live without remembering that. For as nervous as I was before the procedure it went well and i am very glad that I did it. I would of never been able ot do it without the support and information from everyone so thank you so much. Since i have been home I have become very good friends with my bed and my cat rosie who has become my bed buddy through this whole process. As of today I am getting out with my friends and doing as much activity as I can handle. I am getting ready for my senior year at columbia College and i am so excited that I will be able to be a normal college person and be able to do things without worry about how i am going to feel. I have some questions about the whole diabeties thing. I really don't kniow that much about it at all. Right now I am taking my blood sugar 4x a day if it is abouve 120 then i give myself a booster and every evening I give myself a shot of lantas which is a slow release insulin. I am sometimes having a hard time with the diet. I am a vegetarian and they said that I need to spread out my carbs. Well my favorite thing to eat is pasta and that doesn't work so well with the diet part. Does anyone have any suggestions as to new easy to make (remember i'm a college student) meals. I broke a record the other day my sugars were below 120 three of the four times i checked it I was so excited I guess that means those little islets are kicking in. Also did any of you that ahave had this procedure done have upset stomachs after eating. I sometimes have really bad upset stomachs after i eat. Something that is funny now but wasn't at the time. The day after i got back from my surgery i woke up in the morning and had the worst chest pain ever. I thought I was haivng a heart attack I really freaked my mom out. I was screaming at her in pain that i think I was haivng a heart attack adn i need to go to the hospital. well i didn't go to the hospital 15 mins later it was gone and come to find out it was heart burn it was the worst pain ever. The pain was actually worse than pancreas pain. So thats story that i tell everyone and its fun to laugh about iot now. It's so weird to think that i don't have a pancreas any more and for all these years it changed my life and made me someone i would never want to be. I am so happy now that i can do the things i've always wanted to do. I hope to get back to playing sports and working out, going out with my friends and just enjoying my new life. One of my friends thinks that i should get a tattoo of a pancreas with RIP underneath it and put it on my back where it always caused so much pain. I'm thinking about it but still haven't made up my mind. I'll try to get to the computer again soon but if I don't write back right away you know why. Thanks to everyone who kept me in your thoughts. I hope that everyone is having a good day. Guest guest
Hi I am so glad that you are doing so well. Its a wonderful feeling isn't it. I had the same kind of stomach upset after my tp- auto ict. I guess I sort of went a little hog wild with the food and my guts weren't prepared for that. Having had only the tiniest amount of solid food for so long my guts didn't like having to go back to work. It got much better soon as did the heart burn and reflux. I did take Protonix for a couple of months after and that helps a lot. I still take it from time to time. Becareful with your insulin now that your ilets may be kicking in. About 2 months after my surgery I had taken the appropriate amount of insulin to cover my meal and then a few hours later I saw a room full of EMT's standing around me. I said (according to my daughter) " what are ya'll doing in my house? " They said I had a seizure, a hypogycemic seizure. I said " no I did not " . Well I did and they had to take me to the ER. It was weird, for 3 days afterwards my whole body was so sore like I had spent the day at the gym doing areobics, cardio and weights, I was sore. Now I can recognize when I go low, but it is a really scarey and horrible feeling. Good luckw ith school and I hope you continue to get better and better. OH and btw, whats your major? Warmly, (SC)
