Guest guest
The pappilae that comes to mind first is the Ampullae of Vater. there may be others but I would have to pull out a book and I'm just not that industrious right now..LOL Anyway, the Ampullae of Vater is a very tiny little tube like vessel, so to speak, that lies within the Sphincter of Oddi. The sphincter is a round muscle and you have them all over your body. They open to allow passage through them and close accordingly. The Ampullae of Vater connects the main pancreatic duct to the duodenum through the Sphincter of Oddi. If you make an OK sign with your left hand and slip your right index finger through the " O " part, the part that is within the " O " would be the ampullae, the part under the other 3 fingers would be the panreactic duct and the part connected to your right arm would be the duodenum. Does that make any sense. This ampullae can get clogged and scarred when the sphincter spasms. Do they know if that other pancreas has functioning islet cells? That would be awesome, sort of like having a stashed savings account of islet cells. Hope this helps.
