Guest guest
, I had an open sphincteroplasty. I have pancreas divisum so I had major and minor ducts opened, as well as my bile duct which had closed off also. Dr. Adam's did my surgery in ton, SC I understand completely what you mean about new docs. So many of them are clueless about our illness. I hate having them look at me like a druggie who is an idiot! But then again, if my doc hadn't sent me to ton I would have been suffering like I was several months ago for who knows how long. The docs there are wonderful and very knowledgeable about our illness. They also know about gastric bypass and how that changes the treatments of the disease greatly. Our diet is so different from the normal patient. Also, I am a diabetic now so that complicates things further as far as diets go. I am going to a new doc Thursday. I have never been to a pain doc before but I am going Thursday. I am nervous about it since I am not sure how much she knows in dealing with cp. How have the blocks worked for you? I haven't been offered that option yet and it scares me to let anyone local do it. I would go to ton for that. The docs around here just don't have enough knowledge of the disease. Let me know what happens! Angie in SC " The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything that comes along their way. Guest guest
Angie, thanks for letting me know you also had a gastric bypass. What type of pancreas surgery did you? Who did the surgery? My GI/Hep is finally back from vacation and I saw him today. He thinks that I may be having a flare-up of my liver disease (autoimmune hepatitis) and that's caused my increased pain, nausea, etc. He wants me taking 10 meq of potassium three times a day because my potassium was only 2.8 when I went to the ER Friday night. I told him it's pretty hard to keep my meds down when I am having increased pain and nausea. He told me he's thinking about sending me to doctor at UAB in Birmingham, AL (100 miles south). He said that I might get a lot better pain relief by having the celiac plexus block 'from the inside' instead of through the back like my pain doc does. I can't remember if he said the UAB doc would do it endoscopically or surgically. I'm not really sure how far they'd have to go endoscopically to do the celiac plexus block but I wonder if they could get far enough to do it on me since I've had the gastric bypass. I see my pain doc next week and my GI wants me to talk to the pain doc about different options for controlling my pain better and to see what he thinks about sending me to the doc at UAB. I am somewhat apprehensive about going to a new doctor because I've had bad experiences with just about every new doctor I've been sent to since being diagnosed with cp.
