Guest guest
Our Dr. suspects phenol issues with our daughter and has suggested us trying the Phenol Assist. (Kirkman's) While I was doing some research about this I also came across a chewable product, No Phenol (Houston). Does anyone know if these 2 products are about the same as far as results? Is one better than the other? I think that both are SCD legal. I saw posts in the archives about both of these products but saw nothing about comparing the 2 products. Guest guest
The chewables from Houston are NOT SCD legal. That version contains fructose and xylitol which are both illegals. Only the powdered and capsule forms with cellulose (and not the one with rice bran) are SCD legal. As far as comparing Houston's with Kirkman's, I've heard far more success stories from the Houston's. That said, it didn't work for us (we took it for over a year with no results), but I think we are the exception and not the norm. We take Houston's other digestive enzymes, afp peptizyde and zyme prime, and I feel like they have contributed greatly to our overall healing. But as far as tolerating phenols go, the only thing that has helped us is fanatically strict SCD and the SCD yogurt. K in Dayton, Ohio Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Fibro, CFS, yeast/candida, copper overload, adrenal fatigue (mostly healed!!!) Kids: son Rhowan 5 yrs old, chronic diarrhea/loose stools, yeast/candida, ADHD, salicylate intolerance; daughter Willow 6.5 yrs old, mild GI issues, salicylate intolerance Started SCD June 2006, went slightly off for awhile in Nov 2006, back on strict SCD starting May 2007. (Redid intro the last week of June 2007 and discovered that most carbs have to be thoroughly pureed in order for my son to tolerate them). Sept 07 UPDATE: Seeing MAJOR improvement in behavior and salicylate tolerance, son has FINALLY potty-trained, and he is having frequent " trophies. Guest guest
We have tried both no - fenol and phenol assist. No- fenol didn't help but phenol assist does.phenols still has a build up effect and we have to watch how much we give him of any one problem food. Like apples are still something we avoid but can now have almond flour and honey which we couldn't have before. Enzymes are all so different and different results for every one the people at kirkman said its like eggs there are so many ways to cook eggs but they all taste different so even though its a enzyme for phenols you just have to try and see what works for you. by the way we get all our other enzmies from Houston because they work better for us but kirkman's for the phenol. I also agree that its the diet that is going to help the most but I wouldn't give up my enzymes because without it we are so limited. We Have ben on the diet for over a year my son couldn't have so much when we first started and it's amazing. it's still very limited but before he couldn't have eggs, honey, almonds, and most fruits. right now he is eating almond pancakes with honey syrup and I am sooooo excited. This diet works. good luck. stacy scd july 2006 emilygracemom wrote: Our Dr. suspects phenol issues with our daughter and has suggested us trying the Phenol Assist.
